"The work itself seems to be solid. However, their lack of cleanliness/cleanup was very disappointing(no dropcloths were used, which left dust and debris all over my bed and in the bathroom. Also, random pieces of metal were left in the bathtub and on the coffee table, in a house with pets). Lastly, communication, and overall customer service, definitely needs improvement."

"Russ arrived when he said he would: replaced a kitchen faucet and had to a also install shut-off valves. I had figured it would be a long job. He was done in 2 hours and all is working just great! He had a reasonable rate and was professional/businesslike."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes. You should always turn off the power to the work area before beginning, use a voltage tester to ensure it’s off, and wear protective gear, such as insulated gloves or safety glasses, to prevent risk of injury. Proper wiring and grounding techniques are also necessary to make sure the job is done right the first time and won’t harm any future homeowners.

To ensure batteries stop charging when they’re full, you’ll need to install a charge controller that determines when the battery is full. Once the battery is fully charged, the charge controller will stop the energy flow or divert the energy to the grid or other appliances. Without a charge controller, the battery may continue to charge, which can lead to less productivity and potential damage.

Just as fluorescent lights are more efficient than incandescent lights, LED lights are more efficient to run than fluorescent lights. The specifics will vary from product to product, but LED lights are typically twice as efficient as equivalent fluorescent lights. A 13-watt CFL bulb can replace a 60-watt incandescent bulb, but a 6- to 8-watt LED bulb can offer the same amount of brightness. Fluorescent lights offer about 50 lumens per watt, while LEDs offer about 100 lumens per watt. LED light bulbs typically last two to three times as long as CFL bulbs, too.

Some portable cooktops are compatible with standard 120-volt outlets, but most induction (and electric) ranges and stoves need a dedicated 220- or 240-volt circuit and 40 to 50 amps to work. If you are replacing an old electric range with an induction one, you likely already have the proper outlet, but it’s worth checking with a local appliance installation company.

A 10,000-watt generator can run a small to mid-sized central AC unit (typically up to 3 tons or 36,000 BTU) along with a few other appliances. However, larger AC units or additional loads will require a bigger generator. Consult a local generator installer to ensure you add the correct size generator to your home.
