"The man who came, cleaned out the back of the refrigerator. He was even kind enough to let me clean the floor when he moved the refrigerator out. When he got done, my refrigerator purred. Then lay plastic, canvas, rosin paper, or masonite sheets across the room, securing them at the edges with masking tape. Plan your painting so that you minimize the chances you’ll step in and track any splatters.

Porcelain tile, ceramic tile, and polished concrete come closest to fully waterproof, since water cannot pass through the material itself. Floors with a fiberboard core, like some waterproof laminate, resist water but absorb standing spills over time. Wipe up spills quickly to protect any floor.

Technically, you can start tiling in a corner and work your way out. However, it's not traditionally how tiling is done. Instead, work from the bottom middle of the wall. Tile out the entire row with whole tiles before moving on to the next row. Once you finish installing all of the whole tiles, then you focus on tiling the corners.
