1975 years of experience

Since our founding in 1975, we have consistently delivered excellent service to those needing insurance repairs. By focusing on clients and operating with integrity, we have developed a reputation as a top performer in our industry and grown to serve multiple regions across the nation. Our experience enables us to handle the most detailed and complex repairs with expert precision, while guiding owners through the process and treating their properties as our own.

"Jenkins Restoration came to knock on my door on the same day my house caught fire. They started to work on my house, putting boards on windows without my approval. A few days later, after my family was released from the hospital, their salesmen met us in the hotel and began telling us everything we wanted to hear, saying a lot of good things about Jenkins Restoration. He was very convincing, but they did everything to secure my house reconstruction contract. Over the course of one year, which is how long it took them to finish rebuilding my house, three different project managers oversaw the construction. They were disorganized and dysfunctional. Each time the project manager changed, my house construction paused and communication with the previous manager was lost, creating a difficult environment between me and them. Their general manager, Brian Asbury, was arrogant and out of touch when I started to complain about their poor performance, lack of customer service, and empathy for my family. My house construction was supposed to take 6 months to complete, but it took them a year. Even after a year, I had to rush to move in because my insurance didn't want to cover my rental house any longer. Jenkins Restoration never fully completed my house, and in the end, I had to settle with them to move on with my life. Here is my advice: if you hire Jenkins Restoration or anyone else, study the work scope approved by your insurance for your home. Jenkins Restoration added many extra demands to my home work scope, which my insurance company approved for thousands of dollars, but they never completed the work. They used cheap materials for my house, including flat paint, to save money for themselves. Be involved in the materials purchasing for your house, as they only hire low-paying contractors, many of whom don't speak English. Jenkins Restoration prioritizes money over customer care. Additionally, when they are counting your personal belongings, be present and take pictures of each item. Contractors from Jenkins Restoration who counted my belongings stole many items from my house, including electronics and tools from my garage. They also scratched my brand new $3000 Samsung refrigerator and refused to replace it. To ensure the money approved by your insurance for house construction is properly used, know what is in the work scope and make sure everything is completed as listed. If not, make a claim as it is your money. If you are not familiar with the work scope, they may take advantage of you and not complete the work as approved by your insurance. My experience with Jenkins Restoration was awful, and I do not recommend them. If diversity is important to you, note that Jenkins Restoration does not exemplify this value, as they are dishonest and lack diversity, consisting of only one race of greedy individuals."

"The company is HPP Home Project Pros, owner Darren McComas (formerly House Medic). When I hired Mr. McComas, he didn’t offer a contract and I didn’t ask. My mistake. He is the husband of the dentist who took over my former dentist’s practice so I trusted him. He gave me a quote and I agreed to do the job. He wanted a down payment of half the amount. At the time I said to him that I wouldn’t have to pay again until job completed and he said yes. The job was to take out an old bathtub and install a shower. It’s a small bathroom. After taking out tub, his foreman, Scott Woods, told me that the premade shower piece was too big, and they would have to custom build the shower. For $1,000 more! My tub was out with a hole in the floor! I didn’t have a choice. I texted Mr. McComas that he should have measured. He never responded nor did I ever hear from him again.

At the end of the first week, Mr. Woods asked for more money again. I mentioned that Mr. McComas said I didn’t have to pay more until completed. But then they added more cost to the job which shouldn’t have been my problem. I pointed out things that needed touched up to Mr. Woods. One evening over the phone he threatened to leave the job. I asked how would Mr. McComas feel about that. He responded that Mr. McComas told him he could get his tools and leave when I hesitated about paying more. He again wanted paid in full before he was coming back the following day to finish up. He needed to seal the shower. He left a spray can for me to add another layer. He indicated that it was the homeowner’s job to seal. I had never installed a shower. How did I know how to seal? Well, it was a spray can. He installed the shower head but didn’t check after. My handyman had to adjust the shower head because it was leaking. The curtain rod is a tension rod and has fallen three times. I also think the step into the shower should be a little deeper so the water won’t leak out from around the shower curtain. I would not use them again and do not recommend them."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

Although homeowners often use the terms basement remodeling and basement finishing interchangeably, they are quite different terms.

Finishing a basement is the process of taking a basement space that is not habitable and adding elements to make it usable. This includes adding plumbing, flooring, and insulation.

Remodeling a basement means taking an already existing finished basement and changing it, often by adding or removing walls, adding plumbing, or changing the existing flooring.

You should always use high-quality lumber for your framing in order to ensure it will last the test of time and resist moisture. Use 2-foot by 4-foot lumber that is pressure-treated for your framing.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

While bathrooms and kitchens are nearly equal in terms of renovation difficulty, kitchens are the most challenging. Kitchen design, layout, electrical, and plumbing needs all depend on each other for the success of the entire project, and mistakes early in the project can cause trouble later on.

Making a window in a basement larger costs an average of $4,200. You’ll need to pay an average of $550 to have a structural engineer plan the project, $500 to $1,500 for the installation labor, and an average of $2,200 for the excavation and window well installation. The remainder will go toward pulling permits, installing trim, and repairing drywall on the interior.
