"Excellent. Dan responded to my request for a quote the same day, and I had the blinds cleaned the following day. They look like new. So great to have a service that comes to the home. Watching the ultrasonic cleaning being performed is really cool. I had qualms about getting up on a ladder to take them down and then dropping them off at a separate blind/shade cleaner."

"We had Argo Glass & Windows replace sixteen glass panes, many of them large, in our home on January 13 & 14, 2020. Their pricing was fair and the quality of work excellent. Their crew was fast and courteous, completing the entire project in under two days. I thought I would have to repaint the outer frames in spring following the glass replacement, but the manner in which they performed the work kept the existing paint intact. It was January in Wisconsin and they removed the old glass panes and installed the new ones with a very minimum of cold air entering the house. My wife and I were home during the entire process and never felt cold. We will be having them return in spring to repair some rotted wood in a number of window frames and replace some broken window hardware. We will definitely continue to use them for any future window needs and highly recommend them to anyone needing similar work."

"There were some communication issues because of his secretary leaving abruptly and his voicemail being full. However, Ryan called me when the new storm door came in and we set up a date for the work to be done. Ryan worked very quickly and he kept everything very clean. (My wife loves a contractor who brings his own vacuum.) He did a first rate job. He even came back after the silicone sealant dried and washed the windows. Ryan is a nice guy, a hard worker and does very good work. I would definitely use him again."

"We had a good experience with them. Considering the other quotes that we got, their price was reasonable. We talked to 6 different companies. Wellington was the company we liked the best because of the construction of their windows. George was the guy that came out. He was very nice and a great man. They came when it was cold out too."

"John called right away after I made an inquiry with Home Advisor. He came out a few days later and we went over the things that I needed help with. He gave me a quote which was very acceptable and he started fixing things from my list right away. I had a cabinet door off for a couple of months and when he was done, that was one of the items that I could check off my list. He is personable, reasonable, and cares about his work. I plan on bringing him back to do other things around the house. My husband used to handle issues that came up but Alzheimer's has ended my being able to rely on him and YouTube only goes so far."

"The project went well. Chris and his Son were polite and did a good job. Under the cold conditions they were able to provide a high quality product. The work they did in my garage looks amazing. They were also able to touch up my existing drywall and re-texture and paint to make the whole garage seamless. There were a few minor cracks to the seams that showed up. Chris is going to wait until the weather warms up to come back and take care of them. I'm confident this will be resolved and he was more than willing to address and take care of it. I'll post an update once the work is done. I also had them paint some exposed wood around my garage door. They did a very nice job and I'm thrilled with the work."

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.
