"All Service Moving was exceptional. Great customer service - easy to schedule and flexible. Royce & Frost did an AMAZING job moving all of our very heavy and fragile belongings. They handled all of our requests and items with care and worked both efficiently and quickly. They were super friendly and very customer service oriented. I can't thank them enough for the GREAT job they did. I highly recommend All Service Moving for anything moving and/or storage related. And DEFINITELY request Royce & Frost to handle your job. "I've known since early May that I would have a move to make in early July, but it was only a week or so ago that I decided to contract with a mover. So on very short notice, I contacted a few movers. One seems to have gone out of business, as I couldn't get through to them. At another I left a voicemail, but didn't get a response. But Al himself picked up the phone when I called, and was responsive to my job. He estimated that a 2-3 man crew would take about 2-1/2 hours to do my move, and he gave me a quote that was quite acceptable. Most important, he was able to accommodate me with less than a week's notice.
When the day arrived, the movers were scheduled to arrive at 10:00 a.m. Al called early that morning to say they were having an issue with one of the mirrors on the truck, and asked if it would be alright to arrive at 12:30, allowing time for the truck to be fixed. That was fine with me, as it gave me a bit more time to get my things packed and ready to go.
Three men arrived a bit early, surveyed what needed to be done, and got right to work. Loading the truck, driving to my new address (13 miles away), and unloading to just under two hours. The men were happy to do what I asked and were careful with my stuff. I consider it a successful move.
They did inadvertently leave a bag of packing materials at my old address. Al himself dropped by two days later to retrieve it.

Moving questions, answered by experts

The first step in moving a house is to provide blueprints and assess which parts of the house you can move. The next steps are obtaining permits, inspecting the structure, securing road permits, and getting bank approval.

When it's time to move, professionals can prepare the house by disconnecting utilities, removing items, and adding support braces. The house is then lifted with steel beams, jacked up, and placed on dollies for transport. Once it’s at the new location, it gets lowered onto the new foundation, utilities get reconnected, and additional features, like porches or garages, are added.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to how far you can move your house. Interstate moves will involve additional permits and regulations, with some states having different requirements than others. The most important factor relating to the distance you can move a house is the route that has to be taken to get there. In areas with narrow, winding roads, hilly terrain, and low-clearance bridges, it can be very difficult and expensive to move a home long distances.

Moving brokers are required to advertise that they aren’t moving carriers. While it might be buried in the text of the ad, they need to say somewhere that they aren’t the provider of moving services. Moving brokers should also display their Department Of Transportation number in their advertising. Read all of the advertising materials carefully and ensure your moving company is registered.

It's typically best to hire movers who specialize in moving pianos because moving them often requires specific equipment and finesse, especially when it comes to grand pianos. However, some standard moving companies have experienced piano movers on their team, so it never hurts to call a company and ask about their piano moving expertise.

Focus on decluttering when downsizing to move cross-country. Selling, donating, or recycling unwanted items early in your moving process is key to your success. If you are on the fence about some items, consider storage options, or you can ship these items separately to lessen your load.
