"Chris and his staff did an excellent job in taking down a couple of trees and cleaning up afterwards. He also did a side project for us and we were quite pleased. Chris is very professional and easy work to work with. Highly recommend Hover Logging."

"Project took considerably more time than anticipated and we ran into weather issues with snow covering the ground before an acceptable final grade could have been done. There was an error in calculating an additional $400 of fill needed. They probably would have not charged me if I pressed the issue. However, the rest of their work was done well and to my requirements, so I paid them for it. The owner, Chad, was very easy to work with and generally available to keep me updated on progress."

"Jake and his crew showed up on time. Jake was great in communicating with me as I had to have the power company come to drop my service lateral. Jake's crew dropped the 120 year old American Elms that were threatening my power line in a very short time. Jake's crew worked safely and efficiently. I feel it was money well spent after this weeks destructive thunderstorms that would have certainly done damage to my electrical service. JT Tree service is truly a business I will recommend."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

It depends. Smaller, younger trees take longer to mature, but they're more resilient, their roots don't get as damaged during transplanting, and they recover faster. Plus, they're much more affordable to plant, and it's possible to DIY the planting.

On the other hand, mature trees produce fruit faster and provide more shade and privacy immediately. Ideally, a small or medium tree is the better choice if you can wait a few years for it to mature. But if you need immediate maturity, a larger tree is the only option.

You’ll want to have your palm trees trimmed during the spring, ideally in May, before hurricane season sets in, which generally takes place during the late summer. Palm trees grow fastest over the summer months. You’ll also want to trim your palm trees when you notice:

  • Brown fronds

  • Dry leaves

  • Flower pods

  • Fruit

  • Fronds overgrown in power lines

  • Frond encroaching upon your neighbor’s home or yard

  • Visible damage from a storm

Generally speaking, you’ll want to avoid flush cuts, which are cuts made as extremely close to the trunk or main branch. These cuts can weaken your tree, lower its natural defense mechanisms, and even cause decay. You’ll also want to avoid tree topping, which is the total removal of the leader and upper main branches of a tree.

Most pros will advise against either of these methods, which is why hiring a pro is often the best choice when it comes to tree trimming.

Unfortunately, most of the time you’re out of luck if a neighbor’s tree blocks your view. You don’t have a right to a view, so if you have a tree that’s near the property line but on your neighbor’s property, you can’t cut it to be able to take in a majestic mountain or a beautiful sunrise. In some communities, however, there are ordinances protecting scenic views. Checking into your local laws can help you determine your rights in this situation.

A tree can grow back from its stump, but full regrowth is unlikely (especially for more stubborn conifer trees). Instead, trees are more likely to send up a number of shoots from the dead stump, which will try to develop into primary stems over time. In other words, it will start to look increasingly bushy. The goal of killing and drying out a tree stump is to prevent that from happening, as well as make the stump easier to completely remove.
