"I hired SFCterrainworks to remove several large trees and to remove a large brush pile. Excellent work all around! Very considerate through every step and very competitive pricing. I have used other contractors in the past for comparison. I highly recommend SFCTerrainworks."

"Great job. Very reasonable. Cleanup the best. I am hiring them again. They cut a large limb off of a huge elm tree. Now I need a huge Oak Tree cut down that is dying. I know they will do a good job. It's very close to the house."

"Chris and his team were Phenomenal! Customer service way better than any of the rest we contacted. Quote was fast and below half of what everyone else was quoting us. From time of the quote to time of service was, I think unheard of, 5 days! We purchased a property fall of 2021, and it had at least a dozen 70â to 80â trees and half of them were branching out over the house and leaning towards the house. Two weeks after we closed on it a huge branch fell on the outside boiler, which we then were unable to use for the winter. Since then we had been looking for an affordable and safe way to remove the trees from around the house. After months of searching and extraordinary price quotes we were recommended to Chris and his team. We called for a quote and unexpectedly he was able to be there the same day for it! Then came back the next day with a co-worker to double check how to do it safe and affordable for us. The quote ended up being over less than half of all the other quotes we had been given! Not only that but he then said he and his crew could be there and start with in 5 days, our minds were blown! They were fast safe and clean. We told them we just wanted the trees down and weâ d take care of the rest. They went above and beyond by chunking it up and making nice piles! They were extremely kind and really down to earth good people! I would recommend them to anyone especially if they have been hit hard in the economy like we had. Thank you Chris and your team!!!!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

As a general rule, the protected area should be about 1½ times as wide as the canopy of the tree’s leaves. This digging measurement can vary by tree species and the age of the tree. Of course, that can be a lot of fencing for larger trees, which is why our first step is about making difficult decisions on which trees to save.

The best time to trim trees is in late fall through winter when the tree has slowed its growing for the year. Cold weather stops insects and fungal growth from attacking a new tree wound. Summer and fall are considered the worst times to trim trees, but it’s permissible in certain scenarios, such as tree disease, damaged branches, or small, aesthetic cuts.

To maintain trees on a commercial property, perform regular pruning, monitor for diseases, and apply fertilization to promote healthy growth. It is also important to remove any hazardous branches to keep the trees healthy and prevent potential liability issues.

If you’re wondering whether you can plant a tree where the stump was removed, know that the soil conditions won’t be ideal, so you should avoid it. The soil beneath the previous tree will likely be depleted of nutrients, plus there may be roots left behind that will seriously hinder the growth of a new tree. Also, if you use salt or other chemical solutions to kill the stump, these can linger in the soil for months or even years and prevent healthy growth. It’s best to choose a different spot that’s at least three feet away for a new tree, or wait at least a year and thoroughly amend the soil before you plant.

Trees should be pruned every two to five years, depending on its age and type. Young trees should be inspected and pruned every two to three years. Mature trees should be inspected and trimmed every three to five years, and fruit trees should be pruned annually with a careful eye on seasonal growth. Evergreens typically don’t need pruning, unless branches or limbs are damaged, diseased, or harboring pests.
