"We have used A+ Lawn Care for a number of years. Was thrilled when they added the tree and arborist services. They showed up today to 'clean up' the sucker growth on 2 very large Honey Locust, a crab apple and a cluster of mulberry trees. As always the crew that showed up, were prepared to work, did their work, cleaned up after themselves. In this case, I reminded them we had concrete decorative curbing around 3 of the 4 trees. Installed by A+ Lawn Care but buried in the snow. They carefully cleaned the snow off the curbing so they knew where it was. No damage done. We weren't so lucky with another tree company - and there was no snow then. Our experience with A+ Lawn Care and now A+ Tree & Arborist were great. I have recommended A+ Lawn Care a number of times and will do the same for A+ Tree & Arborist"

"Mitch did an excellent job of removing a dead Cherry tree from my back yard. He started by giving me the good advice that it would be best if we did it while the December weather was still mild, before winter really hit. So we had a nice warm, sunny day and got it done right before the first heavy snow storm of the season. Mitch was very efficient and it didn't take long to finish the work. And the wood was cut up and stacked just like I wanted it to be. A very good job. Thank you."

"We had a 75' Black Walnut tree coming out of the ground and preparing to take our garage complex with it. And, before Kramer arrived, I had assumed that 2 small trees (a young Ginkgo and a young Three Flowered Maple) in the way of the Walnut behemoth would be lost. Instead, these guys dropped branches with deadly precision and both trees were completely unscathed. This is what we think of Kramer: We have absolutely no intention of ever using anyone but Kramer for our Horticulture needs in the future. These guys knew trees and we enjoyed talking about the various species I had installed on our property. They were not just people hired to plow snow, install hardscape, and, by the way, cut down trees. They made sure they spared everything else around that tree because they understand our love of trees."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Tree removal can be quite expensive, especially for larger projects, but you can use the following tips to help keep costs down:

  • Do the yard cleanup afterward yourself

  • Choose to leave the logs on your property and split them yourself

  • Opt to leave the stump in the ground and tackle stump grinding yourself

  • Pull permits for tree removal, if necessary, to avoid fines

  • Pay to have multiple trees removed at once

  • Remove tree in the late winter or early spring during off-season

Consumers typically do not need to worry about the cost of tree insurance, as professional tree service companies pay for their own coverage. For a tree service business, an average U.S. policy covering about $1 million in general liability costs roughly $40 a month or $500 a year. More extensive policies, providing between $500,000 to $2 million in coverage, can cost between $3,000 and $6,000 annually, depending on the company's size and scope of work. Tree service professionals should speak with an insurance company to determine the right plan for their business.

Yes, many services include stump grinding to eliminate tripping hazards and improve aesthetics.

Whether you should remove the roots of a dead tree depends on whether they’re damaging nearby areas. For instance, if the roots continue to grow near sidewalks, driveways, or the foundation of your home, they can cause damage. If you want to plant something else in that spot, removing the roots can make it easier for the new tree or plant to grow.

Homeowners are usually not responsible for trees that fall on power lines. Power companies usually have utility easements around power lines, which give them the responsibility to maintain any trees within about 15 to 20 feet of the lines.
