"Ivan and his team did an excellent job on painting the siding, trim and accent beams. In addition, they removed all lights and downspouts and put them back exactly as they were. Furthermore, despite an abundance of annuals, perennials, and bushes around the house, his team made a real effort not to disturb or break any of the plants. Very hard working and outstanding quality / value. Can’t say enough good things about Ivan and his team from MVO"

"Bob and his crew were great and easy to work with. In addition to painting, they added railing to my porch, replaced some rotting boards, and trimmed some trees. To my surprise they also threw in a power wash to my deck that was desperately needed. Iâ m thrilled with their work."

"Sef was very professional, I had my doubts when a 19 year old came to my door for my estimate. But he walked me through all the options for painting my house and built it around my budget. When he and his crew came out to do the work, they were all super professional and tidy. Didn’t leave a mess around my house and were all super accommodating when I had any questions. They made my house look almost brand new. He still reaches out to make sure everything still looks good. I would very much recommend!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Pressure-treated wood lasts at least 10 years, but with the right care and treatment, it can last as long as 40 years. Painting the boards is one way to increase the lifespan of pressure-treated wood. The layer of paint provides extra protection for the wood against the exterior elements and insects.

The longevity of paint on wood depends on factors like the quality of the paint, surface preparation, exposure to elements, and maintenance. Exterior paint on wood surfaces can last 5 to 15 years or more with proper care and maintenance. Interior paint tends to have a longer life span, often 10 years or more. Regular cleaning, touch-ups, and addressing any issues like peeling or cracking can extend the life of the paint.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

No, it is not okay to paint over rotted wood. Painting over rotted wood will not address the underlying issue and can trap moisture, leading to further decay. Properly addressing the rotted wood by removing and replacing or repairing the damaged areas is necessary before you can even consider painting.
