"Very thorough during the bid process to determine scope of work. Happy they used Sherwin Williams super paint. They completed a 1100 sq ft ranch with 2 coats in a day. Also helped me scrape and paint a garage in another day. Good site cleanup."

Small jobs welcome

"Nick refinished the maple cabinets and doors in our kitchen. Our house is just over 20 years old now, so the cabinets and doors had an expected amount of wear and were starting to look pretty bad. Nick removed all of the old finish, made minor repairs and sanded where necessary, then he did his magic so that now we have new white cabinetry that looks like we bought new. Nick is very thorough and explains what he is going to do before he does it, so there is a good level of comfort there. We're happy to show off our cabinets and would recommend Nick to others!"

Small jobs welcome

"Garrett and his crew were professional, dependable, punctual, and friendly. They handled the expected and unexpected aspects of the job well. Overall, I am very pleased with Two-Day Painting and their work. I should have done a better job inspecting before they left on the final day, or asked if I could have waited until the next day (and seen my rooms in daylight). There was one area that needed touching up that I had to take care of, but I didn't notice until after they left. There were also things I noticed upon seeing areas in the daylight that I was not expecting. I'm sure if I would have seen and asked upon inspection they would have taken care of my concerns."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

The longevity of paint on wood depends on factors like the quality of the paint, surface preparation, exposure to elements, and maintenance. Exterior paint on wood surfaces can last 5 to 15 years or more with proper care and maintenance. Interior paint tends to have a longer life span, often 10 years or more. Regular cleaning, touch-ups, and addressing any issues like peeling or cracking can extend the life of the paint.

When staining a deck, don’t skip surface prep, avoid staining damp or dirty boards, and don’t apply stain in extreme heat, cold, or wet conditions. Never overload the wood with a stain, as too much can cause tackiness or peeling. Also, don’t forget to test a small area first to ensure the color and finish look right.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

The number of coats you need to apply when whitewashing a surface depends on how opaque you want the final product to be. If you're going for a transparent, barely there look, a single coat or two may suffice. For fuller coverage, you'll want to use multiple coats. Another option is to use a less diluted paint to get a thicker coverage.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.
