Small jobs welcome

"I still have vacuum lines in my carpet from where they cleaned up after themselves! In addition to responsive customer service, competitive prices, and a polite, clean work crew; CM Advance Insullation was easy to work with and did a fantastic job. I was invited to inspect the work and could easily see that the job had been done well."

Small jobs welcome

"Tyler was the first to respond to an Angi List search, came the next day, and told me that my attic insulation, while not perfect, wasn't in need of adding more. I appreciated his honesty, even at the cost of losing a contract. I recommend this company based on honesty."

"They had a great group of people to work with, The crew was there at the appointment time. Nick and his team worked together well to get the job done, including adding insulation to the attic, adding foam to all exterior walls, and insulating in the basement. This was all done in 1 day and they cleaned up after themselves. I would highly recommend them."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

The primary purpose of insulation is to maintain comfortable temperatures in a home, whether that’s cool air when it’s hot out, or warm air in winter, but that’s not all it can do. All options will also minimize heating and cooling needs, lowering both your carbon footprint and energy bills in turn. And some options, like rigid foam boards, even offer soundproofing benefits, too.

If you’re a savvy DIYer around the house, own the basic tools, and have enough time on your hands, you can definitely install fiberglass insulation yourself. Doing the work yourself will certainly keep overall insulation costs down. However, if you’re not confident in your handy skills around the house, call in a professional.

Your house may be cold even if the heat is on because of bad insulation, gaps in doors, small holes pulling hot air from the home, or excess humidity. The heater itself might be malfunctioning. For this problem, you’d need to talk to an HVAC pro. If you have a gas heating system (most do) this should be considered an urgent job as natural gas could be leaking in your home.

Insulation can be made of cellulose, fiberglass, polyurethane, polystyrene, or mineral wool. Radiant barriers are often made of aluminum or other similarly reflective materials, but they will need to be paired with something else because they don’t provide heating benefits. Cellulose is among the most eco-friendly options and may be recycled when it’s past its shelf-life, whereas polyurethane and polystyrene both emit harmful compounds and will need to be handled with care during installation.

Winterizing your outdoor plumbing keeps your outdoor spigot from freezing and potentially bursting. This includes draining residual water out of the pipe and spigot after turning the valve off, then removing garden hoses and other attachments from the spigot before winter comes. Insulating the pipe that leads to the spigot and installing a freeze-proof faucet also help, as does installing an outdoor faucet protector.
