"We had three trees removed from our property. Two, 60ft cedar trees were 20 feet from the house, and one large birch that was on located a hillside surrounded by mature pines and cedars. The crew from Dave's Tree Service arrived promptly, confirmed the trees to be removed, and safely navigated the equipment and removal of limbs near the house and power lines. They also asked what size limbs to leave behind that we would use for firewood, along with logs cut to firewood length. They were professional and courteous, and even asked if we wanted help stacking the cut logs for drying. They raked up the brush and wood chips, leaving the wooded area cleaner than when they arrived. Considering the challenge of removing the trees close to the house and the multiple equipment set-ups required to do so safely, the price was very reasonable."

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. If an arborist is certified by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), the highest level of certification available is ISA Board Certified Master Arborist. According to the ISA, this credential is reserved for arborists “who have reached the pinnacle of their profession.” Check your arborist’s credentials before hiring to confirm their level of training and expertise.

Tree roots are hearty and complex systems, so they don’t die immediately after the rest of the tree is removed. If you leave the root system in place, it takes anywhere from two to seven years for it to run out of nutrients. It is worth noting, however, that the roots stop growing and expanding after cutting down the rest of the tree.

Only trim palm trees as needed, which is usually about once per year. However, don't stick to that schedule if the palm tree doesn't need it. Avoid trimming palm trees when possible. It’s best to trim palm trees only when you notice a buildup of dead fronds. That said, leave the brown fronds during the dormant season because this organic matter helps protect the tree from the cooler weather.
