The crew from Dave's Tree Service arrived promptly, confirmed the trees to be removed, and safely navigated the equipment and removal of limbs near the house and power lines. They also asked what size limbs to leave behind that we would use for firewood, along with logs cut to firewood length. They were professional and courteous, and even asked if we wanted help stacking the cut logs for drying. They raked up the brush and wood chips, leaving the wooded area cleaner than when they arrived. Considering the challenge of removing the trees close to the house and the multiple equipment set-ups required to do so safely, the price was very reasonable."

Bleach can potentially kill some types of delicate ornamental trees, but for the most part, it will only kill the foliage it comes in contact with. Applying bleach is not an effective method of killing a tree. A better option is to use an herbicide, which is a chemical compound designed to effectively kill a tree.

Assume that a mid-sized tree will take between four and eight hours, depending on the extent of the equipment required and the health of the tree. Remember to add up to two hours for stump removal. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years. 

DIY is possible for small trees, but professionals ensure safety and proper pruning techniques.

A general rule is that trees need 10 gallons of water for each inch of the tree’s diameter. For large trees, that can amount to approximately 160 gallons of water or more. Watering big trees to this extent can take quite a bit of time using a hose. For this reason, you may consider installing a soaker hose or sprinkler system to make the job easier.
