"We purchased Wasco Windows for our entire house many years ago. We recently had warranty repair on 2 windows. Steve was on time for the appointment and ready to work. He fixed both spring issues right away. He commented that the windows still look great...which I agree with."

"I had a broken sliding patio door that I was struggling with trying to open & close! I am 62 yrs old, disabled & recently my position w/the Company I worked for after 11 years, eliminated the Department I worked in. I kept putting off this repair due to finances. Also, afraid that the door may be in such bad shape I would need a new one, which I really couldn't afford! Otto's Carpentry to the rescue! The door got so bad that I really could hardly open/close it so I needed to get it fixed! I went on Angie's & Chad immediately called me. I didn't even have to wait, he was here bright & early next day! If it was an emergency, he would even have come out that night,(and it was later p.m. already), if he had to! Being an older door, he set the expectation that it may not even be able to be fixed! Well, he worked his "magic" & the door is good as new! He even put a new handle on as the old was 1/2 broke right off & missing the lock! He made it so the blinds on the inside of the glass worked again AND he fixed a piece of the wood trim that was falling off(without me even asking)! I hadn't asked him to do that as I knew that would raise the price & I didn't have any extra $'s. Let me tell you...he is fair & affordable! He is a "old school" hard worker, works long hours & even weekends! He is knowledgeable & will do the job right...no short cuts here! I think he knows how to do just about anything & he will let you know if the repair is worth it, good or bad & the issues that could possibly arise! He is honest, real, down to earth & no BS! You can't find a harder, more dedicated or experienced worker! A+++ rating for Chad, I would trust him w/ any job I need done AND would highly recommend him to anyone! Thanks Chad, will call you back when I can afford my next project!"

Door Repair questions, answered by experts

On average, you should change your hinges every 10 to 15 years. You can extend your door’s life span by lubricating it, limiting the weight you place on it, and evenly distributing the door’s weight across all hinges. If you prefer to wait until you have to change your hinges, at the very least, be on the lookout for noticeable signs of wear and tear.

DIY is possible for minor track cleaning or roller replacement. Professional services handle alignment and structural issues.

Wood putty is an effective solution for repairing holes in wood doors, especially stained ones. For stained doors, it is crucial to match the putty color to the existing finish, as it's difficult to match new stain to old stain. You can buy putty that matches your door's color or blend different shades for a perfect match. For larger holes, you can first fill the void with spray foam and then apply wood putty over it. Another option for large holes is to use spray foam and spackle, and then paint the entire door for a uniform, fresh appearance. If the hole is very large, particularly in a hollow core door, replacing the door may be the most practical solution.

You put shims between the three-sided frame to which the door hinges are attached and the framing of the rough wall opening. Using shims like this will center your door in the wall opening and allows you to make small adjustments to get your door plumb and level for smooth operation. Your shims and the gap they fill will be covered when you install door trim, so don’t worry too much about the appearance.

Generally, hinged French patio doors are considered more secure than sliding glass doors. French doors typically feature a more robust, solid frame that can support multi-point locking systems and deadbolts, securing the door at several points and making them harder to break into. In contrast, sliding doors often rely on a single lock and operate on tracks, which can be a security vulnerability. While you can add security bars and other features to enhance a sliding door's security, a well-made French door is often more secure on its own. Ultimately, the overall security of any patio door depends on the quality of its materials, the locking hardware, and proper installation.
