Advance Lawn Service Company, LLC is a full-service lawn and landscape company located in Hartford, WI. Our service areas include Hartford, Erin, Slinger, Jackson, West Bend and surrounding areas of Washington County.

"Called and told them we needed mulch and dirt installed. They asked for pictures, I sent them and she explained they were busy and he would come out in a week to give estimate. A half hour before he was supposed to come he called and said he had looked at the pictures and wanted to talk about flowers and landscaping. When I said it was dirt and mulch he said they didn’t come to Pewaukee. Could have told me that a week ago."

Lawn Fertilization and Treatment questions, answered by experts

Quack grass is a perennial plant that will continue returning yearly until you eradicate it above and below ground.

The decision of whether or not to let moss grow in your yard depends on your preference. Moss is a lower-maintenance alternative to grass that looks green and lush but doesn’t require irrigation, fertilization, or mowing. Unlike grass, moss doesn’t attract pests, so it can keep your yard free from bugs as well. However, moss won’t stand up to heavy foot traffic as well as turfgrass.

In the fall, you should aerate the soil, overseed the bare spots, kill weeds, mow the lawn low, and rake your leaves. By boosting your lawn’s health in the fall, your grass will be stronger throughout the winter and come back healthier in the spring. You should also trim your perennials so that they withstand the winter and are ready for new growth in the spring.

If your lawn has a higher pH than recommended for your type of grass or it looks yellow, sulfur can help. If your lawn is slow to grow and not very lush, it could also benefit from a  higher sulfur content. Sandy soil is especially vulnerable to sulfur deficiencies.

Yes, but the best approach is to apply fertilizer well before you actually sprinkle the seeds. Apply fertilizer with an NPK ratio somewhere around 10-10-20, or 10-10-10, depending on soil test results and the type of grass you're planting, about six to eight weeks before planting grass seed. This mix added to loosened soil will give the grass seed its best chance of getting off to a solid start.
