"Kurt was awesome. Very professional, but made sure I understood what he was doing to troubleshoot to make sure he did not replace what was not needed. Turned out some of our coaxial cable was bad, too many cheap junk splitters and the antenna also proved to be be bad. He worked very hard and was making sure everything was working. We went fron having 20 stations that would come in about 10% of any day, to now having 54 local stations. All having strong signals. I would tell everyone to have Kurt come check your systems. You are probably missing channels you do not even know of."

"Jake did a great job installing two home theater systems for us! He mounted two large tv's with surround sound systems and he ran all of the wires behind the walls for a nice clean, seamless look! He programed everything for us and educated us on the use of the products. He was reasonably priced, on time and cleaned everything up nicely. I will definitely call him again and highly recommend him for any of your tech needs!"

Stereo and Home Theater Systems questions, answered by experts

The biggest and best home theaters are 24 by 15 feet, but in smaller spaces you can make do with 15 by 20 feet, 10 by 12 feet or even smaller. You should aim for a ceiling height of about 9 feet. Remember, the size of your theater will affect layout, projector placement, screen size and other factors.

The VESA mounting standard refers to the layout of the mounting holes on the back of all televisions that follow the standard. These holes appear in the same place on all TVs of a certain size. This allows the mounting bracket and hardware manufacturers to build the brackets to fit the VESA standard. Ideally, if everyone follows the VESA standard, any brand of TV should fit any brand of mounting bracket, as long as the sizes match up correctly.

Depending on unit size, complexity, and labor, assembly costs range from $75 to $300.

You can customize your home theater to include a wide range of features, but the minimum components include a wall-mounted TV, sound system, and comfortable seating. The cost will vary depending on the components you choose. Some of the most common elements and their costs include:

  • Home theater screen: $250–$1,500

  • Low-end front projector: $1,500

  • High-end front projector: $10,000–$60,000

  • 4K 50” to 60” TV: $800–$1,500

  • Wiring and circuit board: $400–$2,700

  • 60-inch TV and bracket: $900

  • Five box speakers and subwoofer: $500

  • Three HDMI cables: $30

  • Amplifier: $250

  • Universal remote: $20–$200

  • Surge protection: $25 and up

Identifying the source of noises is your first step to soundproofing a room without overspending. Generally, sound comes from inside or outside of the house. Inside noises include creaking floors, living noises like TVs in the living room, cooking sounds, or kids being kids. External noises generally include incremental weather, disturbing neighbors, and street traffic. Inside noises require you to soundproof floors, ceilings, and doors, whereas outside noises may require you to soundproof your attic, windows, and walls facing the streets.
