"I purchased a new HVAC system from Cardinal. Everything about the job went as planned, in the amount of time we were promised. The installers were professional and cleaned up the work space very well when they were finished. I would use Cardinal again without hesitation."

"Jim was a very good communicator and was able to give a general estimate over the phone based upon an inspection report we provided to him. They were able to come within our timeframe of a week, and did excellent work. Whenever my husband or I contacted Jim about anything, he always got back to us in a very short time. One of the best experiences I have had with any contractor. We would definitely hire again."

Customers say: Quality work

"Excellent work. They ran electrical wiring in the attic, mounted electric boxes/switches, and installed two ceiling fans/lights. They had the right tools and knew what to do. They did the work for less than original estimate. This was for a job that one other firm (upon seeing the job) turned it down as being too difficult. I highly recommend them."

"I can't say enough good things about Kitchen and Bath Solutions! The customer service I received right from the very first phone call was incredible. I worked with Ajara, one of their designers, and she responded to every question, and every email immediately. I was so impressed with how quickly she got back to me with every single question I had, and I had a lot. Also, she was very helpful and extremely knowledgeable when it came to helping me design our new shower. Ajara suggested tiles, colors, shower door closures, etc., but she really listened to what I wanted, she didn't push her ideas on me. I liked how she was there to give her professional opinion. I really leaned on her design eye and her experience. She's seen hundreds of remodels, so there were times when I went with her experience. That being said, when it came to colors or tile styles, I never felt pressured to pick what she liked best. I appreciated that Ajara listened to what I liked, but was there to steer me back if my ideas got a little off course. The other thing that I was most impressed with was the impeccable work of the crew. The men who came out to work on our shower were truly masters at their craft. I am a perfectionist to a fault, but I can honestly say, that the work these men did is 10-star! I would come home, and be amazed every time. The tile and grout work, the seat and shelves, the placement of the grab bars, installation of the shower system, and gorgeous glass shower doors, really are a work of art! Lastly, I'd like to comment on the professionalism of everyone who works for Alberto at Kitchen and Bath Solutions. They gave me a timeline, and they stuck to it. Alberto, the owner, was so good at contacting me about what day they'd be out, and what they were going to accomplish that day. The crew was respectful of my woodwork and my floors throughout our house as they demolished the 32yr. old bathtub enclosure, and as they spent the next eight days or so in and out of the house. I always prefer to work with a local, small business whenever I'm doing any kind of work on our home, and boy am I glad I found Kitchen and Bath Solutions to create the shower of my dreams!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Energy output depends on turbine size, average wind speed at your site, and system efficiency. A 5 kW turbine in a good wind location can generate 8,000 to 12,000 kilowatt-hours per year, which may cover a large portion of an average home’s needs. Accurate output estimates require a professional wind assessment and a review of your household’s energy usage patterns.

In many cases, yes. There are models called dual-fuel generators and fuel switches, but only between certain types of fuel. For example, with the right setup you can convert a generator from natural gas to propane. Some allow switching between diesel and gasoline. There are even tri-fuel generators available in some cases, which adds a large layer of security if you are worried about fuel availability in times of crisis. Always check your generator capabilities and manual instructions before trying to switch fuels. Some generators can use another fuel but may need a fuel conversion kit to prep them first.

The amount of time a standby generator can run continuously is around 3,000 hours on average. However, standby generators can generally run indefinitely as long as they have a continuous fuel supply. Generators hooked up to a home’s natural gas supply are the best option for extended usage, as these won’t rely on a finite fuel supply based on how much you have in storage. Generators running on liquid propane or diesel won’t last as long, as these require fuel storage and regular refueling to stay running.

To determine the right size generator for your house, you should calculate the total wattage of the appliances and devices you want to power during an outage. List all essential items, note their start-up wattages, and add them together.

Here are some typical wattage requirements for common appliances:

  • Refrigerator: 600 watts

  • Large dehumidifier: 700 watts

  • Large window air conditioner: 1,400 watts

  • Water heater: 3,000 to 4,500 watts

  • Electric furnace: 5,000 to 25,000 watts

A 7,500-watt generator might be sufficient for essentials like a refrigerator, freezer, well pump, and lighting circuits. However, for high-demand items like a water heater or furnace, a whole-home generator is a better choice. A portable generator may be enough if you only need to power a few critical items.

While home square footage can offer a rough estimate, it is not always a reliable indicator. For reference, here are some typical generator sizes based on square footage:

  • 1,000 sq ft: 6–9 kW

  • 1,500 sq ft: 7–10 kW

  • 2,000 sq ft: 10–14 kW

  • 2,500 sq ft: 12–16 kW

  • 3,000 sq ft: 16–20 kW+

For the most accurate sizing, consult a professional who can calculate your home's peak and average power consumption and recommend the optimal generator.

As a safety measure, you should always turn off the main breaker while operating your generator’s backup breaker. In addition, you should also switch off all appliance breakers so you don't have a power surge when the main breaker turns back on. And finally, turning off the main breaker prevents back-feeding, which endangers utility workers with the risk of electrocution. Back-feeding could also destroy the electrical circuits of your neighbors if they use the same power network.
