"This company is great to work with. They did some mold testing on parents’ home and did excellent work. They also did some work on my home. They replaced a water heater and bathroom fans. He was easy to get a hold of, personable and come over right away."

"I had Brett come to our home to test for mold because I’ve had an ongoing illness that Drs can never diagnose. He was so caring & did the testing within days of talking to him the 1st time. After the testing, he explained everything in detail and provided a list of things to improve the air quality in the home. I have never dealt with any type of contractor that was as thorough and really had our best interest at heart. He was honest, upfront with cost and I felt like I could totally trust him and his recommendations. If you are in need of mold or air quality testing, call Brett. You will be completely satisfied with his knowledge and care to make your home “healthy” again."

"We contacted this company based on the positive reviews. It seems as though that there aren't many companies who want to touch this type of work (so to speak). Or, if they do they are expensive. DJK wasn't much of an exception. They did respond rather quickly when I had first contacted them. They came out and inspected the suspected mold problem area in our bedroom. So finally about 3 weeks later, $1,330.00 and 2 hours of work AND for a 2' x 2' square hole cut out in our bedroom wall. And, they had sprayed a potent biocide chemical that hopefully killed our mold problem! They don't do any mold air quality testing at all. Hence, a lab is involved. DJK will come out in advance and use a moisture meter that is supposed to detect where the moisture sits. Then they zero in on the behind the walled suspect area. That problem was caused by another painting contractor who supposedly did caulk around our windows! Apparently not. Otherwise water wouldn't have seeped in and caused this issue. Oh well, another review and problem for another day. We think it's now gone. And we'll be happier for that part. They charge extra to repair the plaster wall with a drywall (NOT plaster). You'll have to hire someone else to do plaster repair if that is what you want. Don't forget about replacing the possibly contaminated wall insulation that they may take out and dispose of. Then figure either priming and painting it yourself after the plaster has cured. Or, hiring yet another darned contractor. In short, I think DJK does the job ok, but they ain't cheap. We will see."

"Fantastic! Highly recommended Tony and the team. Had a home inspection uncover basement "mold" issue. Had quote which seemed very high and included work that seemed unnecessary from another vendor for ~$3K. Healthy Home came out and quickly concluded there was NO mold but did offer to do a test for $250-$300 that would confirm this (if needed) or for peace of mind. They admitted the test would confirm what they were saying- mold was not present on the fiberglass insulation under the plastic. it was simply dirt and replacing the dirty insulation would take care of the black appearance. There was no danger and no mold. TONY you are fantastic, honest and dependable and you saved a senior citizen from spending $3K unnecessarily. It's great to see there are still dependable honest vendors out there! Call them for a FAIR and HONEST bid on your work."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Exterior paint contains a higher level of VOCs, which can be dangerous if you’re exposed to it for a long period of time. The good news is that paint’s toxicity reduces significantly once fully dried and cured. Do not keep open exterior paint cans in your home, basement, or garage, exposing your household to harmful chemicals over time.

Inhaling black mold spores, even from behind walls, can cause people to have a wide variety of potential health issues. Some people may only notice a few breathing problems, while others can become quite sick with symptoms related to severe allergies. Constant exposure to mold spores can lead to lung infections and other long-term health problems. If you believe you have black mold inside your walls, you will want to reach out to a pro for an inspection and for advice on how to take care of the problem before it causes severe illness.

Usually, when you have mold, you will notice that your indoor air quality isn’t what it should be. You might notice dank odors, for instance, coming from your carpet, and it may feel damp or spongy. Or you may find that your family members are showing more allergy symptoms than usual, from coughing and sneezing to itchy, watery eyes.

And, of course, if you’ve recently experienced flooding or you live in a particularly humid environment, that’s a good sign you’re at risk for mold growth.

The cost for mold remediation typically ranges from $1,125 to $3,350, with a national average of around $2,400. The final price depends on various factors, including the location and square footage of the affected area, the type of mold, and local labor costs.

Additional factors that influence the total cost include:

  • Extent of Damage: The overall price can increase significantly if extensive repairs are needed after mold removal, such as replacing large sections of drywall. Removing mold from a small area of drywall might cost between $300 and $825, but full wall replacement is more expensive.

  • Health Risks: The cost is also justified by the health risks associated with toxic mold, which can cause respiratory distress, act as carcinogens, or even damage the nervous system.

  • Comprehensive Service: Remediation involves not only removing the mold but also addressing the moisture issues that caused it to prevent future growth.

  • Testing and Air Quality: The need for safety testing and measures to improve indoor air quality can also add to the cost.

For an accurate estimate, it is best to consult a mold removal specialist who can assess the specifics of your situation.

Water and electricity are a dangerous duo, so you should always proceed with caution as you inspect your washing machine and attempt to fix or replace any parts. We recommend working with a trained professional when you have a big leak on your machine to avoid fire risks from short-circuiting and electrocution from live wires in your appliance.
