Kraus Snowplows and Equipment was founded in 1978 by Tom Kraus. The primary business at that time was selling Patz Equipment. We have installed and serviced farm equipment ever since that time. We have expanded our offerings to Agromatic, Berg and Kraiburg farm products as time progressed. In 1997, we purchased a snowplow business and provide full sales, service and parts for Boss, Hiniker, Kage, Meyer, Western & Saltdogg snowplows and salters. In 2000, we began pouring concrete as a concrete contractor. We pour flat-work and walls for all agricultural, commercial and residential customers. Since the business has expanded, we now employ 10 people and have built a new shop and storage area in 2009.

Yes, expanding foam (also known as polyurethane foam) can lift concrete. This approach, called polyjacking, involves injecting the foam rather than concrete slurry to fill voids and raise the concrete slab back into place. It’s often faster and requires smaller drill holes than traditional mudjacking, though it may come at a higher cost. Some contractors also prefer polyjacking over mudjacking for more damaged and delicate slabs.

Polyjacking and mudjacking can both be good solutions to sinking concrete, depending on your situation. Polyjacking, which uses expanding polyurethane foam to lift concrete, is a better option than mudjacking because the foam weighs less and won’t contribute to additional sinking. Polyjacking can be a suitable solution for any sinking concrete slab, while mudjacking is normally only a good option for non-structural concrete, like sidewalks, patios, pool decks, and concrete driveways. However, polyjacking costs much more—as much as $25 per square foot, compared to the maximum of $6 per square foot you’d pay for mudjacking.

It’s possible to rent the equipment necessary to do your own mudjacking, but we don’t recommend it. Mudjacking involves pumping a precise amount of cementitious slurry under your slab to lift it back into place and keep it there. It’s easy to pump too much or not enough, in which case you may need to call in a professional to help anyway. We strongly recommend against mudjacking any load-bearing slab, as you could easily cause irreversible structural damage to your property if you make a mistake. Mudjacking can take 24 to 72 hours to cure enough to resume normal use.
