"I cannot say enough great things about Jamie and the team at Wisconsin Generators LLC. From the very first conversation, Jamie was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly responsive. He took the time to walk me through all my options, answered every question thoroughly, and made sure I felt confident in the decision we were making. The installation process was seamless. The crew showed up on time, worked efficiently, and treated our property with respect. Their attention to detail and commitment to doing the job right was obvious from start to finish. Everything was clean, organized, and completed exactly as promised. What really sets Jamie apart is his integrity and customer-first approach. There was no pressure just honest recommendations and clear communication. If you’re considering a standby generator, I highly recommend Jamie and Wisconsin Generators LLC. "Unstoppable Electric LLC just installed our Tesla Wall Connector, and wow—what an incredible experience. They were super responsive from the first message, easy to schedule, and showed up right on time. Max is very knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely nice to talk to. He took his time to do everything perfectly—clean, precise, top-quality work with no rush whatsoever. Explained everything clearly, made smart suggestions, and left the garage looking flawless. Pricing was fair and transparent—no surprises. Definitely now my go-to electrician in the area! 10/10 recommend! Thanks again for the stellar work! ⚡️🚗"

"First, they were recommended to us for the whole house generator by home depot.  We were so happy with the generator that we had him do a bathroom fan at my house and a bathroom fan at my son's house.  I did some checking and that was a reasonable price.  With the work he did, it was more than reasonable.  The job was a little more involved than he thought it would be and he didn't have any problem with any of it.  Without anything to judge the pricing from, other than online and a couple of guys I had come over who weren't on the same page as me, I'd say excellent.  The quality was top of the line.  As soon as he got the generator, he got over here to put it in. As a matter of fact, I am thinking about calling him again for something."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.

With proper maintenance, a whole-house generator can last between 20 and 40 years. The specific lifespan depends on how often and for how long the generator is used, and some models may have their life expectancy rated in hours of operation. To maximize its lifespan, expect to spend around $150 to $300 per year for annual maintenance checks from a qualified technician. During these checks, a technician will inspect the engine filter, starting mechanism, fuel, lubrication, and coolant levels. Consulting your installer and choosing a low-impact fuel like natural gas or diesel can also help ensure your generator lasts as long as possible.

A 1,500 square foot home will likely need a 15kW to 20kW generator. When deciding on whole-house generator size, add up the total wattage of the devices that you’d like to continue running during a power outage. That way, you can ensure you purchase a generator that can power your necessary appliances or medical equipment during an electrical emergency.

While standby generators provide essential backup power, they can fail when you need them most due to lack of maintenance, fuel supply issues, dead batteries, electrical problems, or improper installation. To avoid costly failures, professional installation and regular maintenance are crucial. Licensed technicians ensure safety, uphold warranty requirements, comply with regulations, and provide expert servicing.

Potential benefits of using a natural gas generator include reducing your carbon footprint, lower likelihood of carbon monoxide exposure, budget-friendly operating costs, and low-maintenance, continuous fuel supply. Some possible drawbacks, though, include higher initial installation costs, dependency on a natural gas supply, and installation complexity. Keep in mind that pros and cons will vary based on the type and brand of natural gas generator.
