"Mr Rooter showed up and spent 3 hours augering on our kitchen sink drain that was draining very slow. The tech gave up and started instructing me to find where the drain line ran in the basement and start cutting inspection holes in the drywall ceiling and walls to cut into pipe in the basement. Left with sinks in kitchen both full and drain was then completely plugged. Charged me $320 to make my problem worse. I called Kruser Septic the next day. They showed up and used a small jet and within 45 minutes the drain was running free and junk was completely blown out of the pipe. Total bill was $180 with 2 service techs on site."

Frost-free faucets are a smart idea if you live in a region that sees freezing temperatures. These specially designed faucets are typically insulated and feature a shut-off within the house. When temperatures drop, you’ll close the outdoor spigot so that freezing water doesn’t sit in the fixture and cause it to split or crack during cold weather.

Yes, if you live in a climate with extended periods of frost or snow, it’s best to winterize the sink and avoid potential bursting. Similar to winterizing a garden hose, turn off your water from the source. Once turned off, open the faucet so the remaining water completely drains out. You can also pour a small amount of antifreeze down the sink drain so any trapped water won’t freeze.

Pipes are connected in a bathroom by a 3/4-inch to 1-inch line running from your water meter into your home. The line then splits, with the hot water line going to your water heater and the cold water line running into your home. The cold water line leads to the 1/2-inch water supply lines for your home’s toilet, tub, and sink. The hot water line runs from the water heater to all sinks and baths.

A couple of components work together to control your shower's water pressure. A water pressure regulator, located near your main water shut-off valve, will control the pressure as water enters your home. From there, your shower valve does the heavy lifting. Other factors that impact water pressure include the type of showerhead you install (rain showerheads tend to have lower water pressure than traditional wall-mounted showerheads) and whether the local building code requires a flow restrictor.
