"Update from my previous review: customer service was great. However, when we went to,use the woodstove this fall we trusted the end of season sweep and inspection performed by this company in fact did not completely clean out the chimney, and damaged our liner, as pieces of our liner were in the cleanout of our chimney. I don't believe they intentionally tried to leave us unsatisfied, I think we should have checked their work before they left. Unfortunately, we have a nice fire department bill and get to reline our chimney now. We will just research companies better this time, and be sure to check all aspects of the job before they leave."

Chimney Sweep questions, answered by experts

To get rid of the smoke smell in a microwave, scrape off any burnt food residue and throw it away. Next, warm a cup of water in a microwave-safe container for three minutes. Then, dip a microfiber cloth into a mixture of water and a couple of drops of dish soap and wipe down the inside of the microwave. Dry the inside of the microwave with a fresh cloth and let everything air out for three hours.

The most common causes of kitchen fires are leaving cooking food unattended, frying food with excessive amounts of oil, and leaving flammable objects near the stovetop.

The first step in fire damage restoration is having a pro come in right away to help control moisture (if authorities used water to extinguish a fire at your home). Skipping moisture removal puts your home at risk for invasive mold and rot that can cause added property damage and health issues. Once you have the bulk of the water out, you’ll need to run blower fans for 24 to 72 hours to remove moisture.

All of the components of stucco are non-combustible, so the siding material won’t ignite or spread fire to the interior of your home. However, it also expands and contracts with changes in temperature, so it will crack from long exposure to heat. Eventually, fire will spread through those cracks. Still, stucco is one of the best siding materials for fire protection and can keep you and your family safe for an hour, on average.

Pricing a fire-damaged house is tricky, and it’s best to involve some professionals. First, get a comprehensive repair estimate from a fire damage restoration expert. Next, have a real estate agent get you an as-repaired value for the home, which represents what the house would be worth if fully repaired. Subtract the repair estimate from the as-repaired value to get the as-is value.
