"This has been the worst home repair experience I have ever endured. Josh Griggs of Breaking Ground LLC was disrespectful of my home, my belongings, in addition to having little to no work ethic and produced a sub-par product in my opinion. The pincacle of his atrocities is possibly exposing me, my family and all his employees to cancer causing agents for 2 entire weeks before even considering having insolation tested for aesbestos. Ignorance, arrogance and pure disregard is how I best describe my experience. I hired this company to fix a crack in my ceiling and 6 weeks and almost 2 thousand dollars later i had a single sheet of drywall poorly hung over some insolation and an that was considerably more than the second room he demo'd had completed. Normally I wouldn't write a negative review because I am a small buisness owner and know the negative effects word of mouth can be but the horrendous experience I've had with Josh Griggs has made me feel obligated to protect all his future clients from the experience me, my family and my home have endured. To write all the atrocious behavior and practices would take pages and many hours... Hours I have to utilize fixing the job this company did in my home. See pictures of property damaged, electronics damaged, holes made in walls, bad workmanship and many other awful results of hiring this company. I think it's safe to conclude that I do not recommend hiring breaking ground for any jobs and regret my choice immensely."

All phases of landscaping, grading, retaining walls, patios, hydro seeding, sod, creating beds, edging and much more. Two landscape crews.

"Be careful when you go and get loaded at the site. Your personal property seems to be of little concern, and you get to pay for their mistakes.. At least I am.. Though I think this is a great outfit, had a very unfortunate interaction. While having a tree loaded in my truck my tailgate was completely destroyed. I’m told a sign in the office states that all damage is on me. That somehow a 300-400lb rootball compromised the loading capabilities of their forklift. Yeah no. Sincerely, Guy with a ruined tailgate that now wont close due to Spokane Boys loading error"

"Was told it would be about 4-5 days. It took them8 days over a four week period. Crappy Home Depot sprinkler parts, most of which were clogged with pebbles and had to have another company fix. My 3-5 gallon shrubs at $60 each were only about 12" x 12"! Part of the sod died and had to be replaced. They did a half *** leveling job and I now have a small lake in the yard! Still fighting with them about that! I spent $15k total and am so sorry that I did ! If u want pics of this crappy job, let me know!"

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

When you purchase mulch for delivery, it’s usually by the cubic yard, so you’ll want to convert your space to cubic yards to get the right amount. First, determine the square footage of the area you want to cover, and then determine how deep the bed of mulch will be—a good rule of thumb is around three inches. Multiply your square footage in feet by the depth in inches and divide by 324. You may want to add a ½ to one additional cubic yard to ensure you have enough.

Colored mulch can be bad for plants in that it robs them of nitrogen as it depletes the soil to break itself down. With this in mind, it’s a good idea to test your soil to check the nitrogen levels. If the nitrogen levels are low, use fertilizer with extra nitrogen or switch to regular mulch.

Another downside of colored mulch is if it’s heavily contaminated, it can contaminate the soil and damage your plants. To avoid this, look for the MSC certification logo on the mulch bag before purchasing.

Among the most common types of gravel are pea gravel, crushed stone, marble chips, jersey shore gravel, and base gravel. Gravel has different densities depending on whether it’s wet or dry or mixed with sand.

It depends on the model of your pool. You’ll always have to level the topsoil, but most vinyl-lined pools require an additional 1- to 2-inch layer of sand to protect the liner. This way, when a foot kicks down to the bottom of your pool, it’s not scraping the liner against the hard ground. If your pool isn’t vinyl-lined, you can skip this step or add a layer of another base material, like decomposed granite. Always check your manufacturer’s instructions before you begin.

Nonorganic mulch, like river rocks, pebbles, or lava rock, technically lasts the longest. It helps with moisture retention and weed control but doesn’t break down and release nutrients like organic mulch. Wood mulch decomposes slowly, which can help it last longer than leaf or straw mulch, but it won’t provide as many nutrients as quickly as the faster decomposing types.
