"Yes! Eduardo and his son did a great job and I highly recommend them to anyone. There’s a lot of contractors who reached out about this project but what I really liked and one of the reason why I hired them because when Eduardo came out to look at the projects he listened and and then he shared with me his thoughts, unlike the others who just insisted this and that and I even almost kicked one out of the house already. After all, we the homeowners are the customers . Anyways, there’s more projects ahead of us and I definitely don’t mind having them to come out for estimate. We showed photos to friends and families and they all loved it."

"We worked with Ali (sales manager) and Tony (project manager), who took the time to design a project that made sense for our property and our budget, made a number of suggestions and recommendations and were never pushy or tried to "sell" us on something. The crew really went above and beyond to provide top quality workmanship and overall we were in very good hands. Highly recommended!"

"Fantastic.Jon was amazing as a contractor, and his team of subs he brought in were also great. The work done was top notch and I'd be happy to refer him to anyone else (which I've done). Great experience for a big project involving plumbing, electrical, kitchen remodel, the beginning of my small bathroom remodel and opening up the doorway from my living room to the kitchen. He is such a great guy, and it made a very scary process for me much less scary."

"They were professional and knowledgeable, they measured and looked at the basement, and then provided an estimate via email. They had recommendations about how to reduce the cost of the work."

"Skillful Solutions was recommended to us by my 87 yr old Mother. Her home was built in 1983 and she had the team build her a custom cedar fence, replace a deck and supports and they did such a wonderful job she had them completely remodel the two bathrooms in her home. Our Mother was delighted and was raving about how professional, efficient and what high standards the team had. That definitely got our attention because my Mother does NOT rave about anyone. We moved into our custom built home almost 5 years ago. We live in the PNW and are blessed with beautiful natural landscaping. After staring at the “ Dirt “ construction barrier on the perimeter of our home, we really needed some help. Beautiful Home but Ugly perimeter yard & septic drain field, that is what we had. Skillful Solutions started our project by expertly cleaning and sealing our 900 Sq Ft aggregate patios and walkways. Their work was meticulous and our patios and walkways are all cleaned up and shine, they are beautiful! After the appropriate curing time they moved on to the landscape job. They did all the measurements and site preparation and calculated exactly the amount of top soil and sod we would need. That is probably considered basic parts of a landscaping job, yes but what they did with the elements when they were delivered was mind blowing. Literally the cleanest, crisp and well prepped landscaping site we have ever seen, again it was meticulous. I am not a landscape professional but I was very impressed. I knew for certain we had hired real quality craftsman when our sod was delivered. It came from one of the most respected sod companies in the PNW and the delivery driver said our yard was the BEST site preparation he had ever seen. It was really well prepped, even and sharply edged topsoil and the attention to detail was incredible. The sod was placed in one day, we had expected 2-3 minimum. Skillful Solutions then presented custom edging options and subtle shaping that flowed perfectly up to our natural areas outside of our perimeter. They came up with a engineered option in a very challenging drop area along the back of our house. It is perfectly aligned with our patio and looks like it’s always been there, flows perfectly. Our yard and patio are Gorgeous! It took a little getting used to and I said to my husband one evening “ I feel like I am house sitting “. The patio and landscaping job Skillful Solutions did is stunning. Their communication is continuous throughout the project. Their attention to detail with amazing artistic elements is incredible compared to the value you receive for their expertise. Would I recommend them, absolutely! We already have a contract with them for our next project, a custom property line fence in challenging terrain. My 87 yr old Mother was right! We are raving about Skillful Solutions right along with her now."

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

To determine if your basement walls are suitable for finishing, assess their structural integrity and moisture conditions. Look for any signs of damage, such as cracks, bowing, or excessive moisture. Ensure proper drainage and address any underlying issues before proceeding.

Consult with a professional if you're uncertain about the structural stability or potential risks associated with finishing your basement walls.

It is generally more affordable to finish a basement than an attic, though it ultimately depends on how you plan to use the space. The average cost to finish a basement ranges from $7 to $23 per square foot, while attic renovation costs $30 to $60 per square foot. However, a simple attic conversion to a storage space will cost significantly less.

Living in a finished basement is acceptable, but only if the space has the proper points of egress and includes smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to ensure the safety of the occupants. A good way to ensure your finished basement is suitable for use as living space is to get the basement finishing project properly permitted.

Some older homes have toilets in the basement to combat sewage backups. This type of toilet, also known as a Pittsburgh potty, acted as a safety valve over the incoming sewer line. If a line backed up, it would back up into the toilet because it was the lowest fixture in the home, keeping it out of sight and away from the finished areas of the house.

Basement toilets were also used by workers with messy jobs, like those who worked in coal mines or steel mills. This way, they could clean up and avoid tracking dirt through their home.

Whether it’s more affordable to gut a house than build a new one depends on the markets where you'd be buying and selling. However, it’s usually less expensive to renovate a home than to build new construction.

Most homeowners pay between $100,000 and $200,000 for demolition and remodeling costs, whereas the average cost to build a new home is between $139,000 and $531,300.
