"This company was very flexible when we found a pipe leak after removing the exterior siding. They completely worked around the plumber's schedule and finished the job as soon as the plumber was done. They discussed all of my choices, talked about possible requirements if damage was discovered under the old siding and then did beautiful reconstruction with matching cedar. I was on a very tight schedule and they were wonderful! I would like to be used as a reference."

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

Basements are generally required to have windows for your safety. At a minimum, windows should provide an egress in the event of a fire. But basement windows do more than offer a way out; basement windows also offer natural light and ventilation in an area of your home that is otherwise dark and musty.

Because egress windows are meant for emergency exiting and entering, they need to be an accessible size. The smallest an egress window is allowed to be is 15 inches in width and height, with an opening of around 4 square feet.

New window installation costs range from $300 to $1,500 per window, depending on size, material, and energy efficiency features.

An egress window is similar to a regular window. However, this type of window opens fully to allow people to escape the home or rescue personnel to enter the home if an emergency occurs. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be considered a living space.

When you need new windows depends on a variety of factors, including the age of your windows, the age of your home, and the climate you live in. If you’re dealing with budget constraints, you don’t need to replace all your windows simultaneously.

When buying new windows, you should consider energy efficiency, safety, and aesthetics to choose the right window for you.
