Small jobs welcome

"We met with severel contractors and discussed what we wanted. This started with a walkway from our Patio to our Back Gate. There was a step, where the gate is, over the years it has proven to be a hazard. In the front, we wanted our driveway widened. J immediately impressed us with his knowledge, background and listening to what we wanted. He made some suggestions, that we felt improved on what we wanted. We decided J was going to be our Contractor. An added bonus, he is local! We now have a beautiful Walkway! Which is stamped, with some added color. Our Driveway has been extended, this also included a part of our walkway. Through this process J took time and patience to explain each step. His crew was also top notch! We have another project or two and plan on having J involved!"

"Luis and Benjamin are courteous and competent. They did a professional job on the brickwork. The work was done in a timely manner and they stayed until it was near dark to get it done as promised. Our neighbors have been very complimentary and have suggested that LLV be added to our HOC preferred contractor list."

Customers say: Quick response

"They showed up on time,on budget and did a meticulous job! Always pleasant and cleared any issues as they went along to ensure they were doing the project the way we wanted. My husband has some mobility issues that they were careful to address in planning the steps and walkways. They also repaired and replaced concrete that had been installed incorrectly to begin with. Beautiful job!"

Masonry questions, answered by experts

A traditional rectangular brick that is used for siding, brick walks, and pathways is 8 inches long by 4 inches wide. If you are shopping for fire bricks, the standard dimension is typically 9 inches long by 4.5 inches wide.

The material you use depends on how hard-wearing your steps need to be and what you want them to look like. The most common stone for exterior steps is bluestone. It’s hard-wearing and durable, and bluestone steps cost between $15 and $30 per linear foot. Limestone is also a popular option and is mid-range, costing $25 to $50 per linear foot. You should always consider the specific requirements of your project before ordering any materials.

Painted exterior brick does not usually need sealing. Brick is a porous material, so you don’t want to apply a sealant that could trap moisture inside the bricks and cause erosion and structural damage. The risk of moisture-induced damage after sealing is higher in colder climates where trapped moisture can expand if it freezes. On the other hand, it makes sense to seal really old brick or kitchen backsplashes, where moisture from cooking can weaken the brick.

On average, a well-built brick mailbox can last between 30 and 100 years. The insert that holds mail inside the mailbox may last 15 to 25 years before it needs to be replaced. If a mailbox needs to be fixed due to damage, make sure you know who to hire for brick repair.

It’s called cobblestone because it’s made of stones that are “cobbed” together. A cob is a term that refers to rounded lumps. Originally, cobblestone streets were made from pebbles and stones gathered from riverbeds that had been rounded over time by the passage of water. The term has nothing to do with a cobbler, which is the term for someone who makes and fixes shoes.
