I have always had a passion for trees dating back to my dendrology classes at Miami University. That passion has fueled many years in the arboriculture industry as a crew leader and climber. I'm happy to consult with you on your trees or shrubs and options to explore to preserve them for the long-term. Being an ISA Certified Arborist, I'm always striving to keep up with industry standards and grow myself.

"These guys are by far the best tree crew that I've ever hired. They did the job for a great price. they did what I couldn't have done, a tree fell on one of my buildings and they had to rope themselves through other trees near the job and carefully remove the tree from the building without harming the building"

"I became convinced that having a tree service remove the Oak tree at the Cottage was because they had bucket trucks and high tech equipment and could avoid the electrical wires and the cottage roof and wall.. I had four different tree service companies give me proposals. The prices ranged from too much to way too much. Suddenly the time table of possibly having a drilled well installed this Spring (still not a done deal) ran amuck because the mud season weight limit did not end until May 15 and bucket trucks apparently are way too heavy. I am hoping to start renting the cottage from around May 15 on. Then one of the tree services, CB Tree Service from Bear Hill Road in Brookfield, dropped their original price and was very eager to come. They came Saturday around noon and left around 1:30 PM: all done. I was their 3rd and last job for the day. No bucket truck. Just an F250, two guys and a Bandit chipper. One guy climbed the tree and one guy manned the ropes and chipped the branches into our dump trailer. At first I was leery of their climbing and using ropes but watching it convinced me. They worked methodically and carefully but it really took very little time and was safe. It just goes to show you high tech is not always the best solution. Wow! Now I have some firewood and an Oak log. They have a bucket truck but chose to climb instead because of the proximity of the wires and the muddy roads. Job done!"

"Peter Ryan did everything right. He responded promptly, and gave me his honest opinion as to what he was and was not qualified to do, And referred me to another professional for the piece of the job that he felt was not for him. Ultimately I hired him to do the installation of a large perennial bed which was completed in a very timely fashion and which came in exactly at quote. His rates are very competitive, and I was so pleased with his work and that of his associate that I have hired them to return for fall cleanup. I highly recommend Pegtons Property Maintenance service, and look forward to dealing with them again in the near future"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

In general, trees should be planted no closer than 15 to 20 feet from your foundation. For larger trees with far-reaching roots like maples, oaks, or poplars, a good guide is to plant as many feet from your home as the tree’s height is expected to reach at maturity. Some trees, like elms and willows, should only be planted far from where their roots may encounter sewer or water lines.

The cost of professional tree trimming averages $460, with a typical range between $200 and $760. However, prices can be as low as $75 or as high as $1,800 depending on several factors. The size and type of the tree are major cost drivers; for example, trimming Crepe Myrtle trees costs an average of $80 to $400, while trimming giant pine trees can range from $200 to $1,800. Other factors that influence the price include the time of year, as services are often more costly in the spring. The tree's accessibility and your location also play a role, as a remote or hard-to-reach tree may increase the cost. Some professionals may offer a discount if you have multiple trees to trim.

If you’re wondering whether you can plant a tree where the stump was removed, know that the soil conditions won’t be ideal, so you should avoid it. The soil beneath the previous tree will likely be depleted of nutrients, plus there may be roots left behind that will seriously hinder the growth of a new tree. Also, if you use salt or other chemical solutions to kill the stump, these can linger in the soil for months or even years and prevent healthy growth. It’s best to choose a different spot that’s at least three feet away for a new tree, or wait at least a year and thoroughly amend the soil before you plant.

You need to remove all branches affected by Dutch elm disease. If your tree has several affected branches, you will probably need to remove the entire tree. First, consult a pro to be sure that you’ve correctly identified it as an elm tree. Make sure the tree is properly disposed of with a plastic covering or through debarking, chipping, or burning.

Permits are often required for large tree removals, especially in urban areas or for protected species, ensuring regulation compliance and neighbor safety.
