Small jobs welcome

"Adam and his team did an amazing job on completing a backyard fence for my family. He was hardworking and detailed with the work. Kept me updated through every step of the way from the permit process, ordering materials and check-ins as the build was happening. Our fence is great! He also completed a custom railing and gate to attach to our existing deck. Will definitely be using we do it all again for future projects."

"The project was completed on site exactly as I was expecting it to be and more. Oliver made some suggestions regarding upgrades and responded to my requests for additional small changes as the project proceeded. He was very efficient with his time and a most friendly and enjoyable individual to have working on my project. I would not hesitate to recommend Oliver to anyone as he is an exceptionally qualified and professional individual who is reasonable and was right on with his cost estimates."

"We are extremely delighted and completely satisfied with our new roof and the workmanship provided by J & L.  Starting with John who was knowledgeable and helpful during the estimate process.  He answered all of our questions and put us at ease about such an expensive undertaking.  His product offering was excellent with high quality shingles and warranty.  We had four estimates provided as comparison.  One was far more expensive and the others were similar, but we feel we got the best in workmanship and that's what counts.  He and his crew showed up on time every day and put in a hard day's work.  They work as a team and there is no goofing off.  The crew was polite and answered any of our concerns as the work progressed. When they began tearing off the roof they found the reason there had been leaks from the shoddy job done by the original roofer and corrected everything. Because we had this done in early June they had to work between the rain drops. We were never left exposed as they covered all their work carefully and we had no issues.  Each night they cleaned up and disposed of all waste and swept our large driveway area and ensured there were no nails or sharp objects to protect not only us but our dog. Just before the roofing was started we had the house painted and they took pains not to cause any damage to the walls by covering the area where they were working.Because we have a flat area near the entrance, they put in standing seam metal roofing to aid with ice dams, etc. They worked this in beautifully with the shingles and it just flows evenly to the viewer. John's company offers many other home improvement services. We would definitely hire him again.

Pole Barn Builders questions, answered by experts

The time it takes to build a shed heavily depends on the type of shed you buy. A prefab shed can be built in 4 to 8 hours, while a custom shed will be built off-site over the span of 2 to 5 days. It then takes a few hours, depending on the location, to move the finished shed to its final location.

A simple A-frame chicken coop can take as little as three hours to build, but a more substantial all-in-one coop to house a large flock can take four or five days to build. Consult a local handyperson or custom coop builder for a time estimate based on the specific details of your project.

Rather than using a common two-by-four piece of wood for a rafter, you probably will use two-by-six, two-by-eight, two-by-ten, or even two-by-twelve boards. Wider lumber is typically a better choice in a larger building as it provides more sturdiness. Some installers may use wider lumber for rafters near the edges of the roof, where the greatest stress occurs, and save money with narrower lumber toward the middle.

The difference between a pole barn and a stick-built barn is in the construction. Large poles in the ground provide support for pole barns. For stick-built barns, 2-by-4 or 2-by-6 lumber (known as sticks) create a frame around load-bearing beams. Stick-built construction is far more popular for residential homes. Pole barns are more cost-effective because they require fewer materials and less labor.

It is almost always more affordable to buy an existing home than to build a new one. Building a home involves numerous costs, including labor, permits, inspections, utility hookups, and brand-new materials, finishes, and appliances. Additionally, new construction loans can have higher interest rates than traditional mortgages, and property taxes on new homes are often higher, increasing long-term costs. An exception is a DIY house build, which can be cheaper than buying an existing home if you do the labor yourself. While building is generally more expensive, a new custom home offers complete control over the layout and design. Furthermore, new construction is typically worth more than a comparable pre-owned home and may provide a better return on investment if sold quickly.
