"Jeremiah came out and tested the air and moisture and other items to determine if I had mold in my basement. After getting the test results there was evidence of mold and he recommended a company that provides a do it yourself kit for mold remediation. (Not cheap). After getting the items and realizing that there was more work, it would have been better for me to let my insurance company handle this as I do have coverage for mold/fungi. Though having a professional do the work is expensive, from what Jeremiah mentioned, it does not guarantee that the work will be complete or the source of the problem taken care of. He mentioned most companies will take care of the mold but not necessarily the cause of the mold. For this I would have to contact another company."

Biohazard Remediation questions, answered by experts

In mild cases of mold growth, you can DIY mold remediation with a simple cleaning using safe and natural cleaning solutions like baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, or lemon juice. However, if the mold is larger than 10 square feet or you suspect toxic black mold, you should not do mold remediation on your own. Instead, you should hire a professional mold removal company to handle the job.

Finding mold in an HVAC system is never fun, but the good news is you can clean it and send those spores packing. That being said, hiring a helping hand may be necessary to fully remove the mold and prevent regrowth. Professionals use specialized tools and cleaners, such as antimicrobial solutions and HEPA vacuums, to safely remove mold from ducts, coils, and other components. For small amounts of mold, homeowners can clean visible areas using a mix of water and detergent, but they must wear protective gear and avoid spreading spores.

If your sill plate is visibly rotting, you need to call in a structural engineer immediately to make an assessment. They will determine if the sill plate needs repair or a full replacement, and they’ll also provide you with a protocol that you can give to a foundation repair specialist to get the work done properly. After your repair pro completes the replacement or repair, you should address the underlying issue, which could involve installing a dehumidifier, adding ventilation under your home, grading your land away from your foundation, or installing waterproofing measures.

Slime mold can thrive for weeks or months in the perfect environment, but that rarely occurs. The mold will typically die within a week of you noticing it. However, it could be dead long before it disappears, and since it’s safe to handle, it’s easier to get rid of it all at once. This eliminates its chance to spread, and also won’t leave you looking at decaying slime mold.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) only recommends removing mold yourself if the area covers less than 10 square feet. Beyond that, you should hire a local mold remediation company for testing and removal. These companies are trained for the specific task of handling mold and removing it safely and responsibly. The mold removal experts will also be familiar with the different types of mold and the best ways to handle each one.
