A concrete seal can protect your garage floor from water and stains as can an epoxy coating. The main difference is that epoxy is much more durable and better for heavy-duty wear and tear—it’s used in more industrial and commercial settings. Whether or not resurfacing concrete is worth it depends on the extent of the damage. If the damage below the top layer of concrete is too extreme, the concrete resurfacing cost may not be worth it, and it’s better to replace it. However, if your concrete has some standard wear and tear, resurfacing can extend its lifespan by adding a protective layer that shields it from future damage—without the cost of replacing the entire slab. Speak with a licensed concrete specialist to determine if resurfacing is the best choice.

For homeowners, it’s better to dry grind concrete. Dry grinding is the method described above and can be done by experienced DIYers for smaller projects. Wet grinding requires a big volume of water, a way to collect the slurry created by the water and dust, and an environmentally-safe place to dispose of the slurry. In general, only professionals do wet grinding.  

You can concrete can be done when it’s wet or dry. However, it’s safer when wet, as harmful dust and chemicals are present. Sanding it when dry is faster, but you’ll agitate more dust and chemicals, meaning you’ll need to be more careful.
