"The Chimney Cleaning crew arrived a few minutes early for their appointment and spoke with my wife and me about the chimney cleaning project. They explained what they needed to do and my wife offered to let them use her plastic painting cover 'cloths to protect the carpet near the fireplace. They inspected the chimney cap and the spark arrestor, then proceeded to efficiently clean the fireplace, the flue and the spark arrestor and rain guard. The two technicians were informed, conversational and polite. I felt confident that they would do a good job and leave my house cleaner than when they arrived! Their chimney video camera was broken."

"Within an hour of entering my needs on HoneAdvisor, I had a follow-up call by Carpet World and a commitment to have someone at my house that day. Although it was late in the day, two very courteous workers came, expertly fixed the problem. Note before Caroet World, I’d tried for months to find someone to come and address my carpet issue. Carpet World was terrific."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Installing carpet tile takes a pro a few hours per room, while experienced DIYers may take a little longer. However, that does not factor in the time needed to remove the old carpet. Also, if there are issues with the subfloor, fixing it will add to the overall time it takes to complete the installation.

Carpet installation typically starts with removing the old flooring, preparing the subfloor, laying underpadding for cushioning, and securing the new carpet with tack strips, making precise cuts to fit room dimensions.

Yes, carpeted stairs are generally considered safer than stairs with hard surfaces like wood, vinyl, or tile. Carpet provides more traction and friction, which helps reduce the chances of slips and falls. Additionally, if a fall does occur, carpet offers more cushioning, which can lessen the severity of an injury. While hard surfaces can look great, they are often more slippery. However, it's worth noting that some carpets, especially if they are new, dirty, or have a slick texture, can also pose a slipping hazard. To improve safety on any type of stair surface, you can add traction treads to increase grip.

Installing carpet over carpet may negatively impact the resale value of your home. While it offers a quick fix, potential buyers may view it as a temporary solution rather than a long-term investment in quality flooring. Properly installed and maintained flooring adds value to a home, so removing the existing carpet and installing new flooring may be a better option to attract prospective buyers and maximize resale value.

A stair runner can be cheaper than a carpet and will definitely save money over the cost of refinishing hardwood floors and stairs. The price depends, however, on the fabric and quality of the runner. A wool stair runner can be more expensive than an inexpensive polyester carpet and vice versa. Keep an eye on your budget, knowing that the higher quality the carpet and the carpet pad, the better the carpet will wear over time.
