"Jeff replaced the peeling painted drywall porch ceiling with cedar planks which he custom stained to match the front door (which he also stained) . The can lights in the ceiling were replaced with closed LED fixtures..no more bug nest worries! I bought lovely new carriage lights but installing them required Jeff to create a mounting area out of cedar which he then framed with moulding and stained to match the door and ceiling. It looks awesome! Can I add a picture? You really need to see this! Every project that Jeff has done for us, big and small, has made our home more beautiful."

Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Hernandez was terrific. I cannot say enough good things. I had five projects for him and he did each one perfectly. He even *made* a piece for my door on the spot out of wood that was in my garage! He was so tidy that there was nothing to clean up. He installed cabinets! He fixed two doors! He installed weatherproofing strips. He was very good about keeping in touch and letting me know when he would come. And he's nice, too!"

"A&Romero built an arbor and picket fence for me. My experience was was excellent from start to the completed work. I knew I wanted to work with Jefrin from our first meeting. His presentation was professional and respectful. He listened and took time to understand exactly what I wanted and he provided the best estimate. From the time the job was started Jefrin engaged my opinion so that the end product matched my vision perfectly! They were clean and neat and left everything in good order. I will absolutely hire A&Romero for my next project!"

"We are pleased to recommend Triangle Reconstruction with our highest praise. It seems too simple to say that they do what they said they’d do, but that’s exactly what happened. Our home is around 50 years old. Ours was a large job - around a month and $30,000. We had Triangle Reconstruction come in after another moisture company provided mold remediation and a humidifier. I wish we’d contacted TR to start with. We provided TR with a structural engineering report. They created a plan to exactly meet all of engineer’s concerns. TR used temporary supports and replaced seal plates, girders, and joists for over half of our home. In addition, they poured footers and built new columns. They also added a few additional girders to firm up our floors. They removed and replaced our insulation. They sealed our porch and crawl space, replaced our vapor barrier, and installed a moisture meter. They wrapped our electrical cords and hung them. The people at TR are remarkable. A+++++"

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Using a steel frame may raise the value of your home. Steel is more heat resistant, has better longevity, and doesn’t need any upkeep compared to traditional wood. You can also customize a steel build a little easier than other materials like brick, concrete, and vinyl—which have trouble bending and adapting to renovations.

It's possible to turn your carport into a living space, but there are additional factors to address over turning it into a garage. HVAC, plumbing, and electricity won't be optional, and you'll need finished flooring, drywall, trim work, and legal ceiling height, for starters. Also, keep in mind that living space conversions may require upgrading the foundation underneath, and the permits might be more expensive as well.

When hanging a door frame, it’s recommended that you use screws, not nails. Screws are more secure, easier to tighten, and easier to remove if you need to adjust the frame. On average, the cost to replace a door frame is about $400, but you can save on labor costs if you’re confident in your ability to DIY the project.

When choosing a drywall anchor, consider the weight of the object you're hanging and how much weight the anchor will need to support. The heavier the weight, the stronger the anchor you'll need. You’ll find the weight capacity on the packaging when shopping for anchors.

Also, remember that you can use more than one anchor when hanging something on the wall. If you're using multiple anchors, divide the object weight by the number of anchors to determine how much each will need to support. If you need help deciding which drywall anchor to use, you can hire a handyperson to hang your objects.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.
