"Daniel is very professional. He painted my kitchen ceiling. He did a great job. I recommended him to friends & they used him too. He is coming back in the next few weeks to paint all of my shutters. I will use him for any painting projects that need to be done....that's how good he is."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired Skillmans Total Home Care to re-tile my bathroom floor and walls with a specialized pattern I had seen online. Dustin was extremely professional in offering me a different pattern that he believed would look better with the layout of the room. He was absolutely correct. The entire job is completely flawless. His professionalism and passion for what he does is unmatched AND at a very favorable rate. He also saw some paintings I had yet to hang and offered to hang them for me. I could not decide where to put them but he found the perfect home on my walls. I could not have been more pleased with the remarkable experience of using Skillmans Total Home Care and will continue using them when needed as well as referring them to anyone I know in need of a true master of their craft."

"Vientoâ s gets an A+++There is nothing average about these guys except their price which is extremely fair and reasonable. Jamie and his crew took great care to restore my home to new and I was completely in awe when I saw how hard these guys worked to give attention to every little detail. They werenâ t just painting they were perfecting what I had like an artwork. My 200 year old wainscoting and trim had thick chipping paint and they restored it to absolute perfection along with helping me pick colors and even went so far to give me example walls with the colors I thought I might like so I could see if I liked them. I loved everything they choose but one of the colors I personally picked they had already put in 2 rooms and I asked if I could change them for me and they graciously immediately took care of it for me. I am overwhelmed with this company and you absolutely can not go wrong having Vientoâ s on the job."

"Abel and his crew at Zunun Custom Color Painting are excellent painters. They are neat and quick and they tidy up well after each day of painting. They do a lot of little extras in their prep work that many painters skip like caulking window and door seems and patching holes in wood siding. The price for painting our house was very reasonable. We were very lucky to have our neighbor recommend them to us and we would highly recommend them to anyone. 5 stars all the way!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

You should stain both sides of your fence to get the full benefits. Fences often fall along property lines, so you may want to save a buck by leaving your neighbor’s side in the dust. If you do that, all you get is a slightly better view. Moisture and UV rays can still sneak in through the side that’s unpainted or worn down and damage your fence. Rot and rust will spread, even if you can’t see it from your side of the lawn.

If possible, it is beneficial to paint both sides of your fence to protect the fence more completely from the elements. Painting both sides of your fence will create a more consistent appearance as well. However, the time and cost involved in painting both sides of the fence may cause people to paint only the side they see.

The best way to prepare your vinyl fence for a paint job is to clean it with warm, soapy water and rinse it with a hose or pressure washer on a low setting. Be sure to let it totally dry, then sand the surface before applying an epoxy-based primer. After the primer, you're ready to paint your vinyl fence.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.
