"This was a very involved plaster repair and remediation job, in a very old house. Grady is the only person (or company) who was willing to take on the job and drive all the way from Pennsylvania to our home in Northern Virginia. There are very few people who do this kind of work anymore (we really searched) and he is an expert in his field. We needed to work around his schedule, because he is in demand in the tri-state area, so it took awhile to schedule the work to begin... but it was worth it."

"Randy Hudson did a great job of repairing/replacing a rotted deck post on my dad?s deck.  He was very good at assessing the damage and work necessary to correct the problem.  He was good about explaining the process to us so everyone understood what was to be expected.  Randy was very friendly and completed the work as planned and scheduled.  He also did a great job of installing new lattice for the deck skirting as part of the project.  I thought the price charged was fair and reasonable and we have asked him to give us an estimate to pressure wash and paint the deck and other house trim.

"I had seen Lisa Coles work over the years around Staunton, mostly in the downtown district where she was turning back time on structures. Using an artistic eye, she was painting buildings both large and small....with emphasis on reproducing that structure's history. I had saved enough money to put into re-doing my home and called Lisa for the outside job. She was there with a fantastic estimate by the next afternoon. I hired her on the spot and she told me it was time to decide on colors. I had a vague idea of what I wanted but Lisa was able to guide me with her knowledge of color, what looks right, and what compliments the landscape around the house. My house has many panels and original windows, with a multitude of gingerbread trim. She dropped off sample colors and got started with in 2 days of our first meeting. She worked tirelessly with her quiet unassuming crew. She was onboard not just as "the painter" but she helped identify what fixtures and hardware would best accent the home, to me that was above and beyond. I felt like she was more of a partner than a contractor. She was truly interested in the outcome. It is FABULOUS! It's historically accurate, stunning and a jewl box to be admired. I smile when I pull up to the house, daily. At one point she even painted a poured, rugged cement wall to look like faux stone. Not asked for by me at all....a brilliant suprise and why I hired her...for her artistic eye... I am glad that I chose Lisa. I now feel as though I have my very own piece of her art. My very own "Lisa Coles" to be enjoyed for years to come by myself and my neighbors. Now it's my job to keep the lawn and garden looking just as good, which means I have to get off here and mulch then mow lol!"

"Went great. I was able to remove my old wood stove and window unit A.C. out of my shop after they installed my Mini split unit. They communicated very well with a detailed estimate, so there was no confusion. They were also able to put the unit exactly where I wanted it with no complications. Quick and effective. I wish I would have done it sooner. I'm a "repeat customer.""

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

Wood is the most classic shutter material. Common options include pine, cedar, or brasswood. MDF shutters are also a more affordable option that retains the timeless, classic look. Composite shutters, mainly vinyl and aluminum shutters, have also become more popular over the years. You may also find steel shutters, sometimes referred to as security shutters, used on the exterior. Shutters also come in various colors and finishes, adding another layer of design flexibility.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.
