"We can't say enough positive things about Professional Hardscapes. We hired them to repair our enormous rock wall that collapsed after a storm. The entire job took about 4-5 days...which was seriously amazing considering the scale of the project. Henry, the owner, was quick to answer emails or other questions we had. Periodically we would watch the crew (basically because we were amazed at their skill). They were pleasant and professional. At the end of each day, they cleaned up their personal belongings and at the end of the project, cleanup was perfect. They did not interfere with our daily routines in any way. The cost of the project was very reasonable. We will hire them in the future to repair other sections of our stone wall. This project came after we had a bad experience with another contractor, so we were cautious. Much to our delight, this was a completely different experience. It was a blessing to have hired them - what a peace of mind they delivered (as much of our driveway had been blocked by the collapsed wall and stone everywhere). Quality pavers and correct installation handle temperature variations. Proper maintenance is crucial in severe climates to prevent issues like heaving.

While it may be less expensive initially to lay concrete vs. pavers, the long-term expenses that come with repairing concrete may prove to be less cost-friendly than simply replacing a few damaged pavers. On top of that, stamped concrete may only last for 25 years compared to pavers, which can last over 50 years.

Not all pavers need sealing, but they do provide an added layer of protection and durability. If pavers are not sealed (or sealed properly) they’re more likely to stain, fade, and show signs of weathering. All of these issue could result in weaker pavers and the need to replace them sooner.

If pavers are uneven but not sunken, lift the affected bricks and check the bedding sand underneath. In many cases, simply smoothing out or adjusting the sand is enough to level them. Add or remove small amounts as needed, then press the pavers back into place and tap them with a mallet until they sit evenly with the surrounding surface.

Professional installers often include a deep layer of crushed gravel under permeable pavers to allow more runoff to soak through into the soil below. Many installations will include multiple layers of gravel, with coarser aggregate at the base and finer aggregate that sits on top of that bottom layer. Above the gravel, you’ll often find coarse sand that helps reduce paver shifting over time. Some permeable paver designs include a water collection system set into the gravel layer to route runoff to a safe area for disposal.
