You can’t add home addition costs to an existing mortgage, but you can include them in a new mortgage if you take out a rehab loan. However, whether it's a good idea to build a garage on your own or not depends on the type of structure you want to build and local permitting laws. If you want to work with a pre-fab structure, you may be able to DIY. However, if laying a foundation is involved, you're better off working with a professional builder.

Make sure you’re getting the right size to meet your space needs, including enough space both side to side and vertically to accommodate your RV’s features and allow you to safely move it in and out of the garage.

The enormous range in costs is due to a wide variety of sizes and materials, as well as certain projects requiring specialized labor.
