The most expensive part of building a pool is typically the excavation and labor, which can account for 25% to 50% of the total project cost. Concrete in-ground pools are among the most labor-intensive options.

Shipping container pools are prone to rust and corrosion over time, especially if you install a saltwater system. Though the interior of your pool should be lined, the outside is at risk. Luckily there are a few things you can do.

Elevate your pool or place it on a foundation to prevent moisture buildup along the bottom of the container. Apply a rust inhibitor or paint to protect the outside of your pool, and maintain the proper chlorine levels to reduce the rate of corrosion. Regularly inspect your pool for signs of corrosion, and take action when necessary.

While you can install an above ground pool on most level surfaces, you’ll need sand to protect your liner from tearing. For example, rocks, plants, and twigs can take a toll on your liner. Adding sand will help level the pool even more. For additional support, you can also use angled foam or a foam pool cove.

There are several affordable ways to chill your pool. A pool cover can help prevent the temperature of your pool from rising during the sun. You can also run your filter at night to help aerate the water. The next most wallet-friendly option is a DIY pool chiller or fountain that uses evaporation to cool your pool.
