"I am someone who deal with glass wares and other fragile items as it is my business. I have to deliver items to my customer daily so when one day, my regular mover was unavailable, I call them and had the best moving experience. In addition, long-distance moving companies have special blankets and padding to move heavy, bulky items. Full-service movers will pack and unpack your belongings quickly and safely and dispose of all the packing materials, including recycling cardboard boxes. 

If you’re moving locally, pack up your condiments in a cooler and move them in your car or moving truck so you can put them in the fridge as soon as you arrive at your new place. For long-distance moves, use up or empty out all opened condiments or give them to your neighbors. Pack unopened condiments in a box or give them away if you don’t want to move them.

You should transfer utilities at least two weeks before your final move-out date. It is best to schedule the turning off of all utilities 24 hours after your move. Doing so will ensure a smooth transition without any gaps in service while you are still living in the home.

Not all furniture needs to be disassembled. Smaller items or pieces that are easily transportable might not require disassembly. You only need to worry about assembling large pieces, like a sofa, in order to fit through existing door frames and hallways. Before you disassemble anything, take measurements of your furniture and talk to your moving company about what should be taken apart prior to moving.

Apartments come with strict regulations about what pets are allowed, so check before you sign a lease. If you have a fish or reptile, wait to move them until everything is set up and you’re ready to do a special move just for them and their aquarium/terrarium.

For a dog or cat, be sure you have a carrier before the move. On moving day, it’s best to designate a “safe room” or even a crate for your pet to help them get used to the new space. Keep everything they need in the safe room, and let them explore the rest of the apartment in their own time.
