"What an incredible job done by Erskine. The project was actually to remove a wall between our kitchen and dining room. Not a small job. What a fantastic job he did, start to finish. I knew that I wanted to open up the wall, but had no idea how to go about it or what it would look like. Erskine had a vision when we first talked about it, and it turned out better than he had described. He was eager to incorporate any suggestions I had into the project. The final cost was almost right on the money that he quoted. He was very methodical and precise in his work, paying close attention to detail. He cleaned up and even vacuumed every day, so there was no mess or dust. He started the project, saying it would take two weeks, and finished in exactly that amount of time. "He charged me over 1 thousand dollars to install a custom door that cost him about 3 or 4 hundred. He also installed an outdoor hose mount that may have cost him about $40 in materials. The job was priced as the above work plus half a house being sided in vinyl. He installed the door and charged me over a thousand dollars. I paid because I thought that was coming off of the total cost of the job. He took my check and never responded back to me. I finally used a another company to finish the job. That door install should have cost about $200 over the cost of the door. He charged me about $700. Avoid this guy. Plus when he left and went and bought a door knob. The door and jam did not line up....I had to drill out the jam more so the bolt would enter the jam."

The average lifespan for a playset is around eight to ten years, but you can probably make it last to 15 years with good weather conditions and proper maintenance. If you’re purchasing a pre-made playset, some brands offer warranties for up to 25 years—long after your kiddos are grown.

It’s usually possible to install a playground yourself, but we don’t recommend it. Not only is the work physically demanding, but any mistakes could reduce the lifespan of your playground and potentially put any children who use the equipment at risk of injury. It’s relatively inexpensive to hire a professional playground installer, and it’s usually worth the investment, if only for the peace of mind it provides.

It may be tempting to DIY the construction of a swing set to save money, but we don’t recommend it. Since children will use the swing set, the entire system must be solid and safe, meaning the cost savings aren’t worth potentially endangering them. Plus, most DIYers will have to build their swing sets out of wood, which won’t last as long as metal or vinyl and introduces the risk of splinters. Instead, hire a local playground equipment installer to ensure the swing set is built safely and efficiently, setting up your kids for fun for years to come.

Generally speaking, building a swing set is cheaper than buying a prefabricated one, but this assumes you have all the tools and knowledge to complete the project. The average cost to build a swing set is $514, but you should also factor in the time and effort it will require—if you don’t want to give up your weekend, it’s worth considering buying instead of building.
