"John and Bill did an outstanding job updating and expanding my deck with Trex. They listened to my input and provided suggestions that enhanced my initial vision. The quality of the work is outstanding! I am so happy with the work that we are discussing two additional projects."

"These guys know what they are doing! We had roof damage that caused a water stain on our living room ceiling and we got insurance money to repaint this ceiling along with the adjoining hallway ceiling. We decided to spend a little extra of our own money and go with a flat ceiling instead of replacing the ugly popcorn texture. We didn't know anything about local painters, so I checked online and decided on Xtreme Painting. I'm glad I did. I talked to Mariela, who does an excellent job of running the office, and she told me Juan would come by and give me a quote, which he did. The next morning, Juan came back with his helper Gerardo and immediately got to work. Both of these guys are friendly, courteous and hard-working. They talked and joked non-stop as they worked, but that didn't slow them down and it certainly didn't take away from the quality of their work. The ceilings in both of these rooms look amazing! Juan's business card shows that he also does drywall, decks and pressure washing. While he was here, he noticed the exterior trim on our windows was deteriorating and mentioned that he also repairs that. I am definitely going to call him when I am ready to start that project. I highly recommend Xtreme Painting."

"Ferguson Home Improvements did a fantastic job.  All the work that needed to get done, was finished beyond my expectations.  The workers were very friendly.  The job took a little longer that expected, but Ferguson Home Improvements were not at fault, the weather played a major factor with the deck stain and door installation.  At the time the work was getting done, we received a lot of rain and storms.  All in all, I would highly recommend Ferguson Home Improvements.

"We were very pleased with the work and the work ethic of Sandy and Keyenne.  They were prompt, friendly, efficient, and kept the mess to a minimum, plus I liked their music.!  Sandy has a great eye for color and gave some wonderful advice when we were discussing color choices.  She suggested accent wall color and colors above/below chair rail to make it "pop"!! And she was right!  We are very happy with the end results.

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.

You’ll need to wait until the surface is completely dry, which can take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours under optimal conditions. The waiting period depends on several factors, including the type of siding and the weather conditions. Trying to paint before the surface is completely dry can trap moisture under the paint, leading to bubbling, blistering, and mold growth.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

The best temperature to paint a pool deck is between 50 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, because many paints and sealers require temperatures warm enough for the chemical reaction to take place for proper curing. The paint should not be allowed to freeze, and temperatures above 90 degrees can cause the paint to dry too quickly, also preventing the chemical reaction from following through to completion.

The need for a topcoat on a painted deck depends on various factors, primarily the type of paint used and your desired level of protection. Many premium deck paint formulations are self-sealing, eliminating the necessity for an additional topcoat. These paints often have built-in additives that substantially protect against moisture, UV rays, and everyday wear and tear.
