"Greg was excellent in every aspect of the job. He told me up front what could be expected as he inspected the chimney and how much each iteration would cost if there was damage. He inspected the chimney top-to-bottom, took photos and clearly showed me what was wrong, how he would correct it, and the cost. He swept the chimney to remove creosote and ash and I readily agreed the evidence was there, so he proceeded to effect the repairs he suggested. After completion, he showed me the after photos, which clearly showed a professional job. I absolutely, 100% recommend Greg and Bad Ash Chimney Care for your chimney care and repair."

"It's a pretty decent system, I think. They send you the pieces and you install them yourself, which is pretty easy. The only real problem I have is that one sensor is too far away from the panel...or there's some interference, and they haven't been able to fix that. It's an interior door, so it's not the end of the world, just a little annoying. Their customer service is pretty good though. Nice, smart customer service people on the other end, very polite and helpful."

Chimney Inspection questions, answered by experts

Many insurance policies will not cover a roof with two layers of shingles. An additional layer of shingles increases the risk of various kinds of damage, and insurers typically won’t pay claims on a roof with an overlay. Adding a layer of shingles may even jeopardize your insurance coverage entirely, so check your policy to ensure you stay within coverage guidelines.

Yes, all roofs can benefit from flashing. Roof flashing can protect a property from water damage, roof leaks, mold, and other serious issues. It’s vital if you’d like to extend the lifespan of your roof and avoid costly repairs down the road.

It’s possible that installing solar panels can lead to mold on the roof. The panels themselves are not the issue. Problems caused by improper installation—such as roof leaks and mounts that aren’t sealed properly—can cause mold. Another potential cause of mold is debris accumulation under panels, which can trap moisture. If you live somewhere with extreme snow, rain, or hail, your home could be more prone to mold.

An inspection can take up to an hour, depending on the type of AC system you have. If you need to add more refrigerant, expect an extra 30 to 45 minutes.

Take a look at your roof shingles from the ground or from a ladder, and look for cracked or missing shingles, which are the most obvious signs of roof damage. You should also look for pockmarks from hail and blown debris, as well as blisters that could indicate a moisture issue or a problem with the installation. Inside your home, be on the lookout for water spots on the ceilings on your upper floor, as this is a clear sign of a roof leak.
