"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"Cougar Development did an excellent job creating a living space out of an addition to a home built in 1918. The drywall work was excellent as was the placing of needed electrical outlets and ceiling fan/lighting. Closet space is extremely hard to come by in our neighborhood and Cougar was able to build a 30 sq ft closet that our growing family is able to take advantage of. This room was just a storage space and is now a usable living area after Cougar was done with it. The quality of work for the price I paid was amazing! I have already recommended Cougar to those in my neighborhood and will continue to do so!"

"I can't say enough good things about Jacob and Gregory, the gentlemen that actually handled our boxes and furniture. They were polite, intelligent, friendly and knowledgeable. They treated our goods as if they were their own. They worked quickly and we were done within the time frame specified by the offer. We purchased a package of 2 movers for 2 hours with a 16 foot truck. Reginald, the dispatcher/manager? did not keep our original appointment which was the most convenient for us. We were ready and expecting them at 4pm on a Sunday (the date originally given to us by him as the best for his crew so we arranged our schedule to meet them) and there was no phone call to confirm the appointment. They hadn't arrived at 4:20 so I called and Reginald answered saying he was on the bridge tunnel and asked where I lived. When reminded of our appointment he said he would call the movers and see if they could come to our house. He said due to rain in the area (not at my house, it was sunny and clear) he would have to reschedule for the following day at the same time. He did call me the next day to confirm our appointment but I had to take off work early to meet him. He was in an Enterprise Rental truck in my driveway when I got there so they were early. Jacob and Gregory got to work right away and were great! Again I can't say enough good things about them. My husband told Reginald to follow him to the storage unit less then 3 miles away from our home. Reginald decided to follow his GPS instead of my husband and spent 15 min trying to find the storage facility. Once there however, Jacob and Gregory loaded everything perfectly and made good use of the vertical space to fit everything in. Once the job was complete Reginald called to ask how was I paying and I informed him that I had already paid for a package through Angie's list and had to look up the coupon code and give it to him. I didn't mind doing so but it seemed unprofessional. They did finish the job in the time completed and I will probably use them again in the future."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Yes, 12-inch shelves are often considered the standard closet shelf depth for storing folded clothing, shoes, and small containers. However, if you plan to store bulky items such as blankets, baskets, or cleaning supplies, you may want to go deeper. For specialized layouts, an adjustable system can give you more flexibility.

The time it takes to build a closet varies widely depending on the project's size, complexity, and level of customization. On average, construction can take anywhere from a few days to two weeks.

A simple reach-in closet might be completed in less than a day, while a more complex walk-in closet could take one to two days or more. A typical project often falls in the 2-to-5-day range. However, a large, highly customized walk-in closet that requires structural changes, like moving a load-bearing wall, will take significantly longer.

A professional contractor can provide the most accurate time estimate for your specific project. If you are planning a DIY build, it is best to budget additional time.

To prevent sagging, consider both the material and the span of the shelf. Using sturdy materials such as plywood or solid wood can provide better support than particleboard. Additionally, limiting the shelf span to 36 inches or less can reduce the risk of sagging. For longer shelves, incorporating center supports or brackets can offer additional reinforcement.

A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.

DIY is possible for basic designs. Professional services ensure proper construction and space optimization.
