"Wilber's Painting was able to rehab the townhouse in an adequate amount of time. He knew that special paint needed to be applied to block odors and stains, before new paint could be applied to the walls and ceiling. He fixed ceilings with water damage and repaired drywall. He worked diligently and the rehab was very successful. I highly recommend Wilber's Painting."

"Excellent. Gary and his team found the cause of the noise and were able to fix the split framing by going via the attic versus removing the drywall. The cost of the repair was $350 versus thousands as originally estimated. Gary is knowledgeable, professional, and truly cares about making the customer happy. We hired Reo-Servicepro previously and will continue to hire them in the future. Highly recommend."

Small jobs welcome

"Jorge Alfaro is very fair and hard working. He is thorough and communicates any challenges before proceeding. He discovered a lot of rotted wood that was causing leaks below my entrance stairs. He fixed the problem and wanted to make sure it would not recur. I would use him again."

"PatchMaster Northern Virginia was amazing! I had drywall damage from a plumbing repair, and they scheduled me quickly. The technician was on time, professional, and left the wall looking like it had never been touched. I couldn’t believe how smooth the finish was—highly recommend!"

"We had a great experience with this handyman company. They completed several repairs and painting projects in our home, and the quality of their work exceeded our expectations. They were professional, punctual, and paid close attention to detail. Communication was excellent throughout the process, and they made sure everything was done properly before finishing the job. The pricing was fair, and they kept the work area clean and organized. We are very satisfied with the results and would definitely hire them again. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for reliable and high-quality handyman services."

"I hired JW Home Improvement to remove wood filler and a microwave above my electric stove, and replace it with a pre-made cabinet and new range hood. Denis, the JW Technician who was sent to my home to conduct the work, was very professional, knowledgeable and detail oriented. Due to an unknown pre-existing issue that necessitated cutting into the dry wall in the bulk-head (above my stove), the job ended up taking approximately 3 hours longer than what was originally projected. That being said, Denis devised a successful solution to deal with the unexpected snag, repaired the drywall and expertly painted the entire wall. I am issuing a rating of five out of five stars for his performance."

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

Most retaining wall installations can be finished in one to three weeks, but the timeline varies based on factors like wall size and material. The local climate and major weather events, such as storms or flooding, can also extend the project's timeline, as can any holds ups in the permitting process.

Small retaining walls still require a foundation of some kind, typically a concrete footing. This helps to ensure the wall is structurally sound and prevents the ground from shifting over time, especially during those winter freeze/thaw cycles. The footing helps spread the weight of the wall and the load it carries over a larger area of the ground, thus assisting with stability. This is true of small retaining walls, larger rock garden walls, and the like.

They prevent soil erosion, add flat space, and enhance property aesthetics.

Generally speaking, a retaining wall should be between 3 and 4 feet high, depending on variables such as the wall-building material, the purpose of the retaining wall, and more. If you want your retaining wall to be taller than 4 feet, check with your local building ordinance office for the maximum allotment. You may also need a special permit for retaining walls over 4 feet tall.
