A shed-style roof is the easiest to build as there is only one slope. Rather than two sloped sides that meet in the middle like a gable roof, a shed roof will all slope in one direction, making the entire process a bit more straightforward.

Shingles should overhang the drip edge by no more than 3/4-inch. Longer overhangs will more easily get caught in wind and leave you with an increased risk of roof uplift. You can only overlay a roof once. Any additional layers of shingles will add too much weight and may also violate building codes. Once your roof has had an overlay, you’ll need to have a full roof replacement, including a tear-off of all existing roofing materials, when it’s time for a new roof.
