"Martin and his team were extraordinary. They added real stone (large ~3-5” thick) on 9 big cement supports under the main log pillars on our home. Once we selected the stone (called East Canyon) they handled everything including cutting the rectangular stone and creating unique hand crafted capstones. Martin and his team show the pride in their work and the craftsmanship for a very unique set of rock work. Martin is THE guy you want doing your stone work. My wife and I highly, highly recommend him and his team. The entire process of working with Martin was easy and seamless. He provided a bid with various options and prompt and timely during the 2 week project. The cleanup was also fantastic. This is my first Angi review so hopefully it has a step to add pictures."

"David and his crew Ives, Victor, and Joseph did a fantastic job stabilizing our foundation. They were focused on the job and came prepared to work. They finished the job quickly and professionally. They communicated with us throughout the entire process. Once they got into the project they were able to identify areas that didn't require the repairs and David quickly explained a new plan and then, with my permission, adjusted the plan which saved us several thousand dollars. I appreciated their honesty and integrity. Thank you Groundworks for training and hiring quality people. Dennis and Ellen Porter"

"Utah Valley Landscaping was great to work with. They came out quickly and gave me an estimate on my driveway/ sidewalk concrete project at a reasonable cost. Alex and Chris were very professional and helpful throughout the process. Their workers were also very focused and got a difficult job done quickly. When there was a problem, Alex, Chris and Francisco immediately were there to help resolve the issue! I would highly recommend this company for anyone who has a concrete project in mind!"

"I have done many home improvement projects over my 30 plus years of home ownership and these guys are the best!! They were here everyday on time and worked non stop until they left at the end of the day. They worked through heat, rain and snow. The detail is awesome ( I am very picky) and they cleaned up everything when finished-not all contractors do believe me. I have hired many contractors between California and Utah and these guys are awesome! They were professional, did an amazing job and made a beautiful retaining wall and paver patio area which I am excited to use!! They are a small company and as a result can get things done and scheduled unlike previous large companies I have worked with. My materials were here and waiting when they started the work. So impressed with them...will be using them again for my next paver, or brick project for sure!"

"I met with Tony from Legacy Pavers to discuss my landscaping vision, which included a paved porch, stairs, walkway, patio with benches and pillars, along with sod, trees, flowers, and decorative stonework. Tony and his team took my ideas and turned them into an absolute masterpiece. The Crew was always on time and very respectful. Throughout the entire process, Tony was incredibly responsive—always quick to return calls and texts, and consistently ensuring that both the design and installation phases were progressing smoothly. His attention to detail and dedication to customer satisfaction truly stood out. The pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the high-end, top-quality work that Legacy Pavers delivers. I’m extremely happy with the results and plan to continue working with Tony and his team for all of my future paver, landscaping, and home finishing projects."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

The best time for masonry work in Provo is late spring through early fall. Mortar requires temperatures above freezing to cure properly and maintain strength against seismic activity. Because winter brings heavy snow and hard freezes, cold-weather projects require special heated enclosures. During the peak summer heat, contractors schedule work early in the morning to prevent mortar from drying prematurely.

Helpful?

When starting masonry work, you face several unexpected factors that impact your budget. In Provo, older unreinforced structures require mandatory seismic upgrades to meet state building codes. You also encounter expansive soils or high liquefaction risks near Utah Lake. Professionals uncover deeper freeze-thaw damage once work begins, and historic districts demand specific materials that add extra time.

Helpful?

Repairing brick or stone is more cost-effective than full replacement when you catch freeze-thaw damage early. However, older unreinforced buildings across UT require full or partial replacement with reinforced materials to withstand earthquakes. For properties near the lake with ongoing moisture and settlement issues, repairs fail repeatedly, making complete replacement the smartest long-term solution for your home.

Helpful?

The timeline for masonry work varies based on your project scope. Repointing takes a few days, while building new structures takes several weeks. In UT, securing required permits adds weeks to your schedule before physical labor begins. Because the prime working season is short, local professionals book up quickly, and scheduling backlogs extend your wait time by several weeks.

Helpful?

Safety is critical during masonry work. In Provo, demolishing older unreinforced structures carries a high collapse risk due to seismic instability. Professionals use respiratory protection to control silica dust and install proper fall protection for elevated projects. For properties on the valley floor, contractors require shoring to stabilize trenches. Always test older historic structures for lead paint before disturbing materials.
