"have been very disappointed in Cedar Lawn care services. We have been using them for 4 years and things have not been going well for the past year. 1st we paid them to turn off and blow out our sprinklers in the fall. They did not do it but still billed for it. We realized after it froze that they did NOT shut them down or blow them out. We called to complain and cedar lawn assured us they would be here in the spring to fix any issues and repair anything related to this. 2nd. Spring is here. I have several broken areas due to freezing. I had to have a plumber come to fix one pipe. They did credit me for that expense however they still have not turned on my sprinklers and have not returned my calls or messages. There are more issues related to the sprinklers freezing. 3rd when I called to complain and cancel their service the woman at the office could care less. 4th often times when they would mow they didn’t trim. I WOULD NOT USE CEDAR LAWN CARE! To follow up. I received an email from the owner asking what he can do to make it right after he saw my Google review. I replied and never heard back. Now I’m seeing that they are trying to bill my deceased husbands credit card for services they have not done. I would say that I very dishonest."

Leaf Removal questions, answered by experts

It is possible to burn out a tree stump if it is dried out and in an area of your property with a large buffer. Drill holes in the stump and dig around the base so it burns more easily. Then, build a small campfire on top using kindling and firewood. You’ll need enough to keep the fire going for many hours to completely burn out the stump, especially if it’s large.

Monitor the fire closely to ensure it doesn’t spread, and have a hose on hand if it starts to get out of control. When the fire is out, break apart the burned stump and dig out what’s left of it.

If this sounds like a good option, learn more about how to burn a tree stump before attempting it, as it does come with risks.

Whether you grind or dig up and remove your tree stump depends on your landscaping goals. Using a stump grinder leaves the root system in place for it to decompose over time, whereas digging up the tree stump removes the roots and the stump. Overall, stump grinding is a far simpler process since you won’t need to deal with the roots. Stump removal will make your yard look like a demolition site, but you’ll have an easier time replanting in the same place as your former tree.

Dead trees are structurally compromised and prone to branch or trunk failures—falling limbs or the entire tree can pose significant safety risks to people, nearby structures, and vehicles. In addition, dead trees can harbor termites and other pests, which may spread to other trees or even your home. Dry, dead wood is also highly flammable, increasing the risk of fires spreading to homes and across landscapes.

Before you cut down a dead palm tree, try to revive it using the methods listed above. However, there are instances when it makes sense to remove a dead palm tree, including:

  • The heavily infected tree will infect nearby trees, bushes, and plants.

  • The palm’s roots are overtaking your yard, foundation, and sidewalk and causing structural damage.

  • The tree is unstable and a hazard to your property, your neighbor’s property, and pedestrians.

You may wonder whether tree removal is tax deductible: Tree removal is not tax-deductible for homeowners unless it's related to a federally declared disaster. In that case, the cost may qualify as a casualty loss. However, if you own a commercial property, like a rental home, tree removal could be deductible if it's necessary for safety, maintenance, or part of a larger capital improvement project, and you must hire a professional tree removal service and keep documentation. Always consult a tax professional beforehand to see if you qualify.
