"Signature Marble and Granite is definitely the go to company for quality and craftsmanship. Mick and his entire company are very professional and do amazing work. I contacted Mick after seeing his work on a new home construction. He was amazing to work with during our kitchen remodel. He was very accommodating to our budget and he and his crew did an absolute amazing job on our beautiful granite countertops. His pricing and craftsmanship cannot be beat by anyone in the state. Dealing with an upfront, thorough and completely honest contractor, like Mick, is hard to find these days. Mick will definitely be back to do additional work in our home."

"Hired Jon to replace our center island top due to the previous top being cracked. On the phone, communication was good. He went out of his way to find a piece of slab that was discontinued for us. For that I am appreciative. During the in-home measurement, his customer service skills were okay at best. I open the front door and he just walked in. No hello, I'm Jon with Paul Dowland Tile... The quality of the new top is top notch. Measurements are exact, the corners and seam are clean and fit together well. However, I noted to Jon during measurement that our existing top has a think edge. He noted it and said something about how he doesn't do the same backing that they did, but it will look great. Prior to cutting the new top, Jon did call to tell me there is going to be a 1/2" difference between the new top and the old. I thought he meant a difference in the height from the floor. Turns out he was referring to a 1/2" difference in the edges from my current to the new top. So I'm now $4k into the project and the tops don't match."

"Brach is the best!!! I though the basement build out was going to take many months to complete, but he punched it out in weeks. He's very up front in his pricing and there were no surprises whatsoever. Build quality was exceptional and we are very pleased."

"Just needed a hole drilled in my granite countertop for a reverse osmosis system. Robert came out same day, and was a pleasure to work with, and cleaned up any mess he made. He did a great job."

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Formica® is a brand name for the laminate countertops it produces. Laminate is the generic term for a countertop material made from layers of paper topped with an image layer, all compressed under high pressure to form a solid, easy-to-maintain surface. Other brands that produce laminate countertops include WilsonArt® and Arborite®.

When comparing Formica to other laminates, the choice often comes down to personal preference. Formica is a popular brand known for its durability and affordability. Due to its brand recognition, it may be slightly more expensive than generic laminate options, but the name often carries an expectation of a certain quality standard.

Yes, Corian® and other solid surface materials can be cut with standard woodworking tools, such as a circular saw or a jigsaw. However, it is crucial to use the correct type of blade to avoid damaging the material.

For a circular saw, a tungsten carbide-tipped blade is required; a triple chip grind blade is highly recommended. For a jigsaw, you should use a fine-tooth down-cutting blade. Do not use blades designed for cutting wood, as they can cause microfractures that weaken the edges of the countertop. A diamond blade is also unnecessary, as those are designed for harder materials like natural stone, which Corian is not.

After cutting, the edge will be rough. It is essential to sand and smooth the cut edge to prevent microfractures, which can eventually compromise the integrity of the countertop.

Marble countertops cost $3,000 on average, ranging from about $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the type of marble, square footage, location, and whether you use tiles or slabs. Another major cost factor to consider is the grading of the marble, which determines its quality level.

Use this grading system when selecting marble for countertops:

  • Grade A: Nearly perfect with subtle veining

  • Grade B: Minor flaws such as pits, fissures, or blotches

  • Grade C: Minor and major flaws like chipping and cracks requiring repair

  • Grade D: Significant damage needing repair, with dark veining and pronounced colors

Recycled glass countertops can last between 10 and 20 years with regular care and maintenance. The exact lifespan depends on the binding agent used; acrylic is a highly durable choice, while concrete may shorten the countertop's life. Because the material is non-porous, it is heat-resistant, stain-resistant, and easy to clean, allowing it to withstand the rigors of a modern kitchen without showing significant wear and tear for over a decade.

Kitchen counters are 36 inches high because that’s considered the ideal height for the average American adult, which is 5’9” for men and 5’4” for women. A three-foot counter height lets most people comfortably chop, cook, and clean without straining their backs, necks, and shoulders.
