"I met with Tony from Legacy Pavers to discuss my landscaping vision, which included a paved porch, stairs, walkway, patio with benches and pillars, along with sod, trees, flowers, and decorative stonework. Tony and his team took my ideas and turned them into an absolute masterpiece. The Crew was always on time and very respectful. Throughout the entire process, Tony was incredibly responsive—always quick to return calls and texts, and consistently ensuring that both the design and installation phases were progressing smoothly. His attention to detail and dedication to customer satisfaction truly stood out. The pricing was very reasonable, especially considering the high-end, top-quality work that Legacy Pavers delivers. I’m extremely happy with the results and plan to continue working with Tony and his team for all of my future paver, landscaping, and home finishing projects."

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Power seeding and aeration are both excellent ways to improve lawn health, but they serve different functions. Aeration focuses on improving soil health by creating channels that allow more water, oxygen, and carbon dioxide to reach the roots. In contrast, power seeding is a method of planting grass seeds, often by creating narrow trenches in the soil. One service isn't better than the other; they are complementary. It is beneficial to aerate your lawn before power seeding, as this makes the seeding more effective by helping the germinating seeds access the resources they need. It's a good practice to aerate your lawn once or twice a year, regardless of whether you plan to power seed.

Not only are lawn depressions unsightly, they also cause your yard to be uneven and have divots, which can be a tripping hazard. Lawn depressions also make mowing more difficult and can potentially cause damage to your mower.

The best hardiness zones for St. Augustine grass are USDA growing zones 8, 9, and 10. However, with a bit of extra attention, it'll also grow well in zones 7, 11, and 12.

The best time to plant grass seed depends on your local climate and whether you have cool-season or warm-season grass.

For cool-season grasses (like tall fescue), the ideal time to seed is late summer or early fall (typically August and September). During this period, the soil is still warm from the summer, but the air is cooler, creating optimal conditions for germination and root establishment before winter. There is also less competition from weeds. Spring is a secondary option, but cooler soil temperatures, the risk of a late frost, and less time for the grass to mature before summer heat can make it less successful.

For warm-season grasses (like St. Augustine), the best time to plant is from late spring through mid-summer (typically May and June), when temperatures are consistently between 75 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit.

In general, it is best to avoid seeding during winter or early spring, as cold soil and air can prevent seeds from germinating. For recommendations tailored to your specific grass type and climate, consider consulting a local lawn care professional.

While it may seem easier and faster to throw grass seed onto dirt and call it a day, that method likely won’t yield great results. Preparing your lawn for reseeding or seeding by clearing rocks and debris, aerating, removing existing grass, or leveling it. You should also plan out the best time to plant your grass based on its type and your location to ensure it grows well. So, if you want your grass to grow successfully, put more time and effort into the project than throwing seed on the ground.
