Emergency services offered

"Ott Tree Services did a marvelous job removing 4 overgrown trees including: grinding up the stumps and digging up overgrown roots from one of the trees. They also cut down multiple "sucker" tree growths and ground up the stumps for those as well. Each day when they stopped work, they cleaned up all the mess, chips, branches etc. leaving my yard, street, sidewalks and driveway clean! I was impressed at how well they cleaned up when they were totally complete. I did not have to pay a dime until all work was completed and I signed off that all of the work done was to my satisfaction. All work was completed yesterday on 11/08/2020 I would highly recommend Ott Tree Services to anyone wanting timely, quality and trustworthy tree/shrub work done!"

Brush Chipping questions, answered by experts

Yard waste should be professionally removed at least once per season, particularly during major landscaping projects, fall leaf accumulation, or after severe weather. Regular removal promotes lawn health and maintains a neat exterior.

For minor unevenness, you don't necessarily need to remove grass before leveling. You can apply a topdressing mixture to fill in low areas and even out the surface. However, for more significant unevenness or deep depressions, it might be necessary to temporarily remove the grass to ensure proper leveling and soil compaction. After filling and leveling, you can replace the grass or consider reseeding the area.

The most common alternative is burning the stump first, then dealing with the cinders and ashes. As you can imagine, this option creates fire hazards, especially since roots can burn underground, hidden, for long afterward. That’s why many states and cities have outlawed the use of stump burning entirely. We do not recommend this option as a viable alternative unless you get a permit from the local fire department and practice all safe burning procedures.

Others prefer a more long-term DIY approach of degrading the stump with home mixtures like Epsom salt and vinegar injected directly into it. This may help the stump decay faster, allowing homeowners to dig it out themselves, but it’s still a lengthy process. It usually takes months for a stump to start falling apart with such treatments, and in the meantime, it can be vulnerable to rot, insects, and other problems.

Unless it’s rubber or you need to prune suckers and remove weeds, you shouldn’t need to get rid of the old mulch around your tree. Simply push old mulch a few inches away from the trunk of your tree and then top it off with enough fresh mulch to reach 3 to 4 inches in height.

An herbicide with glyphosate, imazapyr, or triclopyr kills ivy the fastest. Herbicides inhibit photosynthesis and cell division. They kill the roots and prevent ivy from regrowing. You should apply herbicide to the cut stems and roots of ivy. You can also spray herbicide on the leaves of ivy, but be sure not to spray nearby trees and plants as it can cause them harm.
