"We own a home-based business which relies heavily on our computers operating efficiently. We have had a service contract with another computer repair business for several years. Recently when we were having problems with our computers, we tried contacting our service contractor multiple times. He never responded. Feeling frustrated, I contacted James at North Alabama Technical Services and explained our situation. He instantly came to our rescue. He "cleaned-up" our computers and took care of all the problems we were experiencing. He went above and beyond to help us in our dire time of need. We would strongly recommend James and his company for computer service needs. We have now retained him on a service contract and are looking forward to working with him in the future."

"They first thing he told me was that I did not need a new humidifier. All I needed to do was replace the filter and clean the hard water deposits around the frame. He was honest and on time. Worth every penny. He made arrangements for a filter to me sent to me and we made arrangements for him to check out my air conditioning and furnaces in the spring."

Humidifier Repair questions, answered by experts

During your HVAC preseason maintenance call, your contractor will inspect the system for any problems and make small adjustments for better efficiency. Tasks include, though are not limited to:

  • Changing filters

  • Checking the thermostat

  • Clearing away dust and debris

  • Checking for mold

  • Inspecting electrical elements

  • Inspecting condensate lines and drain

  • Cleaning evaporator coils

  • Ensuring ignition function

While you can do some of these services yourself, hiring a professional to keep HVAC equipment running can be helpful. These experts know what to look for and may be able to spot potential issues before they become problems. Many HVAC companies offer annual maintenance plans.

Ideal humidity conditions generally range from 30% to 50%, with 45% considered optimal humidity for most homes. If your humidity levels drop below that range, you can turn your dehumidifier off. Additionally, suppose the temperature where the dehumidifier is installed falls below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. In that case, it's best to turn it off and unplug it since cooler temperatures can cause the unit's coils to freeze.

One handy thing about whole-house dehumidifiers is, once installed, you don’t have to worry about placement or changing the dehumidifier’s position. But if you are using a portable dehumidifier, we suggest keeping it away from walls, vents, and furniture. It needs a central, unobstructed spot with access to lots of air to do its job.

The life expectancy of a humidifier is around ten years on average, but this can vary depending on factors such as usage, maintenance, and the quality of the unit. To help your humidifier last as long as possible, it's important to regularly follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and maintenance.

Whether you’re facing significant humidifier repair costs or it’s time to replace your humidifier altogether, it’s understandable to question whether the expense is worth it. Still, there are many benefits of whole-house humidifiers that you might miss, including improved indoor comfort, improved breathing and sleep, better hair and skin, and even increased home value. Either way, the answer is subjective, so it’s helpful to evaluate your home’s humidity without the unit running and give it a few weeks to see if you notice a difference.
